Pinch me, because I must be streaming. It's getting increasingly difficult not to slip into a sweet stream, with competition in the space heating up. In response to the growing field of competitors, Sony just slashed the price of its PlayStation Now game streaming service in half, to $9.99 per month. It's even cheaper if you pay for the service in the 3-month or 12-month chunks. "Starting today, PS Now will be offered at a more compelling price that is comparable to other entertainment streaming services on the market. Current customers will see this new pricing reflected in their next billing cycle," Sony said in a statement. Sony's price cut is in clear response to services like Google's Stadia... Read more...
Google apparently wants a nice share of the pie when it comes to the booming global gaming market according to a new report. The online giant is reportedly working on a game streaming service codenamed Yeti, which would be somewhat comparable to existing solutions like NVIDIA's GeForce Now or Sony's PlayStation Now. Google is already a dominant force in video streaming thanks to YouTube, so stepping into the game streaming fray could be a lucrative venture for the company. Yeti would require subscribers to pay a monthly fee for access to a broad library of games. But how will Google pull it off? According to The Information (paywall), one solution would be to use existing Chromecast hardware... Read more...
If you have ever felt the desire to play PlayStation 4 games, but don’t want to plunk down $300 (or more) for the console when you already have a beastly gaming PC, Sony understands your dilemma. PS4 games are now available via Sony’s PlayStation Now game streaming service, which is turning out to be the console gaming equivalent of Netflix. Games can be streamed either to a PS4 console or to a Windows computer. You don’t have to worry about fiddling with Blu-ray discs or even downloading/installing the game (as with Xbox Game Pass) — games are simply streamed at the press of a button as long as you have a fast and stable internet connection. By streaming with PlayStation Now, you are... Read more...

Gamers can currently stream PlayStation 3 games to both PlayStation 4 consoles and PCs, but this new functionality opens PlayStation Now up to more current titles. Sorry PlayStation 3 owners, your console is among the many devices that PlayStation Now will cease supporting this summer. The same goes for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV, along with all 2013, 2014, and 2015 Sony Bravia TV models. All Sony Blu-ray player models and all Samsung TVs are affected as well. The only platforms that PlayStation Now will continue to support after the bloodbath are PlayStation 4 consoles and Windows PCs. PlayStation Now is a subscription service that gives members unlimited streaming access to over 450 PS3 games. It supports a bevy of devices (for now) and added Windows PCs to the fray around six months ago. But come August 15, 2017, all that changes. 2016 model... Read more...

When Sony bought the Gaikai streaming service and announced it was building custom PlayStation 3 boards to drop into servers for its PlayStation Now game service, a lot of folks got excited by the potential. This type of service delivery could mark the future of gaming, make backwards compatibility a non-issue, and in the long run, completely transform the console business.  Over the long run, a game console might function more as a media and control hub than a standalone rendering machine -- and Sony seemed to have their finger on the idea much more firmly than Microsoft, which was off chasing Kinect and offering vague statements about cloud rendering. Unfortunately, this is Sony we're... Read more...
