Google's new Pixelbook Go is a bit of an anomaly in the company's line of Chromebooks. Neither a folding, swiveling ultra-premium device like the original Google Pixelbook, nor a tablet like the Pixel Slate, the company's newest release is a traditional clamshell design, although one that features a touch-enabled display. It looks, feels, and behaves like a conventional laptop, but with its magnesium chassis, 1080p touchscreen, and quiet "Hush Keys," one that's small, light, feature-rich and well-made. That said, though its premium mobile laptop is fairly conventional, Google's Pixelbook line takes a somewhat unconventional cloud-first approach to computing on the go.  Pixelbook Go... Read more...
A new rumor is floating around claiming the next Pixelbook that Google launches will be called the Pixelbook Go. The machine is tipped to debut at the Made by Google event to showcase fresh new hardware next month.  The Pixelbook Go reportedly lacks the 2-in-1 form factor of the Pixelbook and doesn't have support for the Pixelbook Pen. The new Pixelbook Go also rumored to lack the removable keyboard attachment of the Pixel Slate thanks to its more traditional clamshell laptop design. The bottom of the laptop is rumored to have a "tactile feel" to make it easier to hold. The machine is supposed to be as light, or perhaps lighter than the original Pixelbook device thanks to extended use of... Read more...
Google makes some undeniably compelling hardware in the form of its Pixelbook line of notebooks. Google wants business users to adopt the machines, but most business types need to run Windows for software compatibility; so last summer Google was seeking Windows 10 certification for the Pixelbook. Last month the Pixelbook successor, codenamed Atlas, was spied in a video. At Cloud Next 2019, Google hosted a session that focused on Google Hardware for Business, and in that session after touting the current generation Pixelbook and Pixel slate line; talk turned to what's next for Google hardware products. Despite reports suggesting that Google was cutting back on its roadmap for future products,... Read more...
It appears as though Google or one of its partners is getting ready to release a new Chromebook model, if a newly leaked video is any indication. Codenamed "Atlas," it was originally thought this would be a Made by Google laptop, just like the Pixelbook. If so, it would likely carry a premium price tag, for a Chromebook—a Pixelbook currently starts at $799 (on sale from $999) and stretches up to $1,449 (on sale from $1,649). Atlas is a name that has shown up on the rumor radar before, next to Nocturne and Meowth. Nocturne turned out to be a Pixel Slate, while Meowth appears to have been a scrapped concept for a convertible Pixelbook. Whether it's actually dead or lying in wait remains to... Read more...

The bargains start to go into effect tomorrow, November 16th, with more to follow on November 22 and November 26. To kicks things off, Google on Friday (as in November 16, not Black Friday, which is next week) will be offering a 50 percent discount on a second Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL when purchasing one at full price. If you haven't already, be sure to check out our review of the latest Pixel handsets. In short, they're excellent phones with a killer camera.... Read more...
We've talked a lot about Black Friday deals around here over the last few weeks as people around the world gear up for the holiday shopping season. We've already talked about a lot of Best Buy Black Friday deals but another smoking-hot deal we didn't know about the first time around has turned up. If you want a Chromebook, but you want a high-end premium Chromebook rather than the basic, lower-cost models out there on the market, Best Buy has a very good deal on the super-premium Google Pixelbook. Best Buy will be offering $300 off the Pixelbook base until bringing the price of the machine from $999 to $699. The only potential caveat to this Black Friday special is that the $300 off only counts... Read more...
Google is set to launch its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL Android 9 Pie smartphones on October 9th, but that isn't the only hardware that is set to take the stage in New York City. In addition, Google is expected to announce second-generation Pixel Buds headphones along with new Pixelbook devices. It's the latter product line that gets our attention today. Multiple leaks seem to verify that are least two distinct models of the Pixelbook are incoming. The first device was leaked in a video that was spotted in a Chromium Bug Tracker by Brandon Lall. The video shows what appears to be a tablet Pixelbook with a detachable keyboard. What’s interesting is that the keys on the keyboard are actually... Read more...
There is evidence to suggest that Google may add a dual booting ability to Chrome OS to allow users to load Windows 10 onto Chromebooks, just as can be done on Apple's MacBook systems through Boot Camp. Called "Campfire," the dual boot feature appears to be in development for a public release, and not just limited to internal developers. Google is not talking about Campfire at the moment, though this is not the first we have heard of the company having interest in getting Windows 10 onto its laptops. Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that Google was trying to gain Windows 10 certification for its Pixelbook, as the folks at XDA Developers round references in the Chromium codebases to the Microsoft... If you are a fan of Google's Pixel devices, we have good news—the company is getting ready to refresh its hardware line, meaning there will be a Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL released this fall. On top of that, Google is said to be prepping a new Pixelbook with a sleeker design than the current model, and of course there are rumors of a new smartwatch. Naturally none of this is real until Google says so, with an official announcement. In the meantime, one of the web's most prominent product leakers, Evan Blass (known as @evleaks on Twitter), added credibility to the rumors by tweeting out Google's future hardware plans. Add to this fall hardware lineup a second-generation Pixelbook, with smaller... Read more...
When Google launched the new Pixelbook back in October 2017, there was no denying the svelte and sexy style of the device. The problem for many was that the little rig was $999 and only ran Chrome OS, which for many was a deal breaker. Google later made the device a testing ground for the Fuchsia OS. A new rumor is floating around that if true may finally put the sleek Pixelbook on the must-have list for your typical computer user. A new report claims that Google is working to get the Pixelbook certified for Windows 10. The rumor claims that mentions of the Microsoft Windows Hardware Certification Kit and Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) were found in the Chromium codebases. The HLK was reported to be... Read more...
We just saw yesterday that Acer is trying to counter Google's Pixelbook with its own premium Chromebook 13 and Chromebook Spin 13. Both Acer Chromebooks are available with 8th generation Intel Core processors, and feature aluminum chassis designs.  Now, word on the street is that Google is working on even more high-end Chromebooks that will use Intel's Kaby Lake-G processors (current Pixelbooks uses 7th generation Intel processors). For those not in the know, Kaby Lake-G processors incorporate on-package AMD Radeon Vega GPUs for increased graphics prowess. A development board codenamed "Kidd" with the hybrid chip has been spotted in the Chromium Git. Does that mean... Read more...
Chromebooks running Google's Chrome OS seem to be all the rage these days in the education sector. Low prices coupled with functional keyboards make them a cheaper, more productive alternative to Apple iPads. However, there's also a market for premium Chromebooks, as witnessed by Google's own Pixelbook, which starts at $999. Acer also wants a piece of the premium market and as a result is launching the new Chromebook 13 and Chromebook Spin 13. Both machines include a 13.5-inch Full HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 2256x1504. Acer boasts 178-degree viewing angles and a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is popular with the Microsoft Surface family and the Google Pixelbook. The Chromebook Spin... Read more...
At this point in the game, it is hard to imagine Google moving on from Android, which dominates the mobile market in terms of overall market share. Yet Google has been working on a brand new operating system called Fuschia, the existence of which was first discovered in a codebase post on GitHub in August 2016. Now nearly a year and a half later, Google is testing the OS on a PixelBook. Though Google has not publicly announced anything related to Fuschia, the OS's open source status makes it somewhat easy to track its development. Furthermore, Fuschia's developer Travis Geiselbrecht previously said that this "isn't a toy thing, it's not a 20 percent project. it's not a dumping ground of a dead... Read more...
Around here, we like to think that free is good... for the most part. That is definitely the case with this new promotion in which Google has teamed up with Netflix to provide owners of certain Chromebooks a sweet deal on unlimited video streaming. If you own a Google Pixelbook, Samsung Chromebook Pro or Plus, you are entitled to six months of free Netflix service. It doesn't matter if you purchased the device months ago or recently; Google and Netflix have you covered. As long as you have an eligible Google- or Samsung-based Chromebook, you can visit Google's Chromebook offer site to redeem the offer. Eligible participants will revive six months of Netflix's "Standard Plan", which allows you... Read more...
