Popular streamer Dr. Disrespect has been hit with a permanent ban from streaming service Twitch. He was notified of the permanent ban on Friday, apparently during one of his streams. Just a few months ago, Dr. Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, had signed an exclusive two-year contract with Twitch for what was described as a "life-changing" amount of money. As for why Beahm was banned from the Twitch platform he tweeted, (seen below) under his Dr. Disrespect Twitter account, that he had not been notified of the specific reason behind the decision. Twitch apparently has offered no concrete reason why Disrespect was banned from the platform, other than to note that the service, "takes appropriate... Read more...
All eyes in the streaming space are on Tyler "Ninja" Blevins following Microsoft's surprise announcement that Mixer is transitioning to Facebook Gaming. The decision to effectively shutter Mixer comes less than a year after Microsoft lured Ninja away from Twitch, reportedly paying him around $30 million to stream exclusively on the now-defunct platform. "Ultimately, the success of Partners and streamers on Mixer is dependent on our ability to scale the platform for them as quickly and broadly as possible. It became clear that the time needed to grow our own livestreaming community to scale was out of measure with the vision and experiences that Microsoft and Xbox want to deliver for gamers now,... Tyler Blevins, best known by many as "Ninja," announced on Twitter today that he has notched 1 million active subscribers on Mixer, his new streaming platform of choice. The incredible subscriber milestone comes just five days after he abandoned Twitch, where he had become a streaming sensation and rose to gaming fame. Ninja is one of the most recognizable figures in streaming, right up there with personalities like Dr. Disrespect and PewDiePie. He started streaming in 2011 when he was a college student, but found his greatest Internet-wide acclaim and financial success playing Fortnite, the free-to-play game that launched in 2017. Today we hit 1,000,000 active subscribers on mixer ^-^ thank... Read more...
Microsoft appears ready to heavily push its streaming platform Mixer and to invest some big money into the platform in the process. The big coup that Microsoft has pulled off is luring away Twitch's biggest star, Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. Ninja announced his big move on Twitter last week stating that he would be switching live streams exclusively to Mixer. Ninja boasted 15 million followers on Twitch, which was more than double the number of people that the next closer streamer on Twitch amassed. Blevins at one point had 100,000 paying subscribers to his Twitch streams and raked in millions of dollars per year on the platform. Landing Ninja as an exclusive streamer on the platform is a big deal... Read more...
Microsoft’s Beam game streaming service was just formally integrated into Windows 10 with the Creators Update last month, but the company is already rebranding the service. Beam launched in January 2016, and was acquired by Microsoft in August of that year. A real clear reason wasn’t given for the name change, but Beam Mixer co-founder and Engineering Lead Matt Salsamendi stated, “This was a tough decision, and not one that we made lightly. We believe so much in the power of the platform and want to grow it in every major market around the world. “Unfortunately, that wasn’t something we could do with the Beam name.  We chose Mixer as our new name because it represents what we love...
