Two weeks ago, Microsoft initiated a $100 price cut for its Surface Pro 3 tablets. The 128GB model with a 128GB SSD and Intel Core i5 processor dropped from $999 to $899, while the configuration with a 256GB SSD and an Intel Core i5 processor fell from $1,299 to $1,199. While these price cuts were definitely appreciated, Microsoft declined to include the entry-level Surface Pro 3 in that initial round of price cuts. Thankfully, Microsoft has come to its senses and is now trimming $100 from the base system, dropping it from $799 to a more enticing $699 (this represents a bigger percentage discount compared to the pricier models). For that price, you’ll receive a 64GB SSD and a 1.5GHz fourth generation... Read more...
Microsoft’s ongoing “12 Days of Deals” promotion is still trucking along and today’s deal markdowns yet another ASUS product. In this case, Microsoft is discounting the ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP500LA by $200 to an attractive $299 price point. In case you didn’t already know, the TP500LA features a 15.6” HD touchscreen display that can be rotated 360 degrees to that it lays against the bottom of the laptop’s chassis. This in effect turns the device into a massive (and heavy) tablet. You obviously don’t have to use the device in this configuration if you don’t want to, but you can’t fault ASUS for giving users the option. As for what’s under the hood of the 4.94-pound convertible, you’ll find:... Read more...
The Microsoft-branded Lumia 535 is the most recent budget smartphone entry from Redmond, Washington (it seems as though all we’ve been getting lately from Microsoft are budget- and mid-range models), but it’s an older member of the Windows Phone family that’s getting a fresh price cut today. The Lumia 520 was available for a respectable $39.99 this summer from Amazon, but the Microsoft Store is now selling the phone off-contract for a mere $29. You can use the smartphone with you existing AT&T service or with a prepaid SIM via GoPhone. The Lumia 520 was announced in April 2013, and won’t win and beauty pageants or specs wars. It comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of... Read more...
Microsoft has given Windows XP users plenty of notice that it plans to stop supporting the legacy operating system on April 8, 2014, and as that date draws near, the Redmond outfit is ramping up its efforts to get XP holdouts to upgrade. One of the ways it's been trying to do that is through monetary incentives -- a week ago day, Microsoft began offering $50 gift cards to anyone who purchased a select new PC from the Microsoft Store. And now? Microsoft is knocking $100 off the price of a new PC when purchased from a qualifying Windows XP machine. That's a better offer than before, as you save $100 instantly, provided you're making the purchase from a Windows XP machine. Alternately, you can march... Read more...
Windows 8 devices haven't been able to reinvigorate a slumping PC market to this point, but if Microsoft keeps slashing prices, perhaps things will change. If you pop your head into the Microsoft Store online, you'll discover several recently discounted tablets and convertibles, including one that's been marked down $400. Which one? Samsung's ATIV Smart PC 500T tablet/notebook hybrid with AT&T 4G LTE. The 11.6-inch Windows 8 convertible wields a touchscreen panel with a surprisingly affordable $499 price tag, down significantly from $899. It also has an Intel Atom Z2760 processor clocked at 1.80GHz, 2GB of LPDDR2-800MHz memory, 64GB solid state drive, microSD card reader, three USB 2.0 ports,... Read more...
Nokia's hotly anticipated Lumia 900 smartphone built around Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 platform isn't scheduled to launch for another month and a half, but if you want to reserve yours now, all you need is $25 and you're good to go, assuming you live nearby a Microsoft Store. If not, you'll also need a tank of gas to make the trek to one of just 16 locations, six of which are located in California and the rest scattered throughout the country. Multiple news outlets claimed to have confirmed with Microsoft that $25 down will put you in line to receive a Lumia 900 on day or release, which is rumored to launch on March 18th at AT&T for just $100 with a two-year service agreement. It's an... Read more...
