XYZComputing.Com has posted up some information regarding Seagate's latest enterprise class hard drive that features new perpendicular recording technology.  It's not a desktop hard drive by any means, considering it's only available in SAS, Ultra320 SCSI, and fibre channel flavors, but the tech will surely trickle down in time. "Seagate's big news today is the announcement of an update to its flagship enterprise disk, the Cheetah 15K.4. The new model, the Cheetah 15K.5 will become Seagate's top-of-the-line 15,000 RPM disk and the industry's first 3.5" disk with perpendicular recording. The new drive will feature capacity up... GamePC Labs has gone ahead and rounded up four 500GB hard drive's... I still remember when 500MB was a lot. These are some quality drives though, manufactured by names such as Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, and Maxtor. Even though each brand is known for quality, when the drives average around 77 cents per gigabyte, you'll still want to pick the best drive possible."Today at GamePC, we've taken a look at four of the highest capacity disks on the market, all sporting 500 GB of storage capacity. We've got the largest drives on the market from Hitachi, Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital all in the labs for a round of competitive testing. We've also thrown in Western Digital's Raptor 74 and... Read more...
So how do you make a fast drive even faster? Well, you can always start by adding more cache, larger capacity, and even throw in Native Command Queuing. These features have been added to Western Digital's Raptor series, which already sports an SATA interface, and a 10K-RPM spindle speed. The drive is the Raptor X, and tonight The Tech Report takes the new drive for a spin. "The Raptor X shares the WD1500's updated internals, and apart from the better view, it's identical to its enterprise-class counterpart. But how does it perform? We've cornered one in our labs and subjected it to an exhaustive set of synthetic and application tests to find... Read more...
Hey everyone! Plenty of reviews in tonight, and while I'm sure most of you are already in bed, there's still the special group of insomniacs that I owe a post to. Enjoy the news, goodnight all :). Fujitsu Lifebook N3511 Review @ Designtechnica "The new Fujitsu Lifebook N3511 takes a stab at the multimedia-centric notebook market by adding an integrated TV tuner and a remote control to its list of one-ups. While the N3511 may come with all the bells and whistles you would expect, it is still a heavy system especially when compared to its competitors. We also aren't sure that it's small 15.4-inch screen will entice media enthusiasts enough to jump into the Fujitsu camp." Canon PowerShot... Read more...

Quantum's Fireball CR EIDE Hard Drive ATA/66... Hot Hardware or Hype? A close look at a new ATA/66 Hard Drive from Quantum   Hard Drive technologies seem to leap frog themselves faster than any other techonolgy in the PC Hardware Arena. What is leading edge technology today will be "old hat" in a matter of months when the next level of performance or density is surpassed and brought to the marketplace. It seems as if 6 month design cycles are common place for drive makers. One of the main bottlenecks in traditional drive systems is the bus interface. SCSI has its advantages over EIDE and vice-versa. The latest evolution in EIDE technology is supposed to bring this more mainstream... Read more...
