In some respects, when we think about what the capabilities of a $349 desktop system should be like, we can't help but be impressed what Asus has achieved and the overall value of the Eee Box. What's more impressive though is the Eee Box's absolutely tiny form-factor and completely miserly power consumption. The original Eee PC notebook cultivated quite an enthusiastic following in the marketplace and we think the Eee Box is likely to as well.Asus Eee Box B202 Video SpotlightOur more detailed full review can be found here.... We're writing to let you all know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate the new Asus Eee PC 900.  As most of you know, due to the success of the original Eee PCs, Asus followed up with numerous accessories and multi-colored models in the months after their initial release.  The follow-up units were essentially identical to the originals though, save for the different colored enclosures.  The first really major change to the Eee PC line-up would be the Eee PC 900, which was just introduced about two weeks ago.Although the new Eee PC 900 and Eee PC 700 series machines have similar hardware foundations, Asus has tweaked the 900 in a number of meaningful... Soon after we began posting images and information regarding the original Asus Eee PC from the Computex show in Taipei in June of last year, we knew Asus had a hot product on their hands.  In fact, our initial hands-on preview of the Eee PC was so popular, it has actually been one of the most heavily trafficked articles we've ever posted here on HotHardware.  The combination of the Eee PC's ultra small form factor, features, and affordable price made it attractive to such a broad range of technology consumers, that readers from around the globe poured in to check out Asus' slick, Linux-based, mini-machine.A few months later, we followed up with our full evaluation of the Eee PC... There's a yearly conference going on out in Carlsbad, CA, called D: All Things Digital. This year makes it D6. There's plenty of interviews of the movers and shakers in our digital world by the movers and shakers in the digital print media that we could talk about. Nahh. Michael Dell went to the bathroom or somewhere else non-official and was waving around a spiffy new UMPC. That's news! D6 is a two day-event during which tech industry leaders and luminaries share the stage with Walt Mossberg and/or Kara Swisher and participate in frank discussions about their companies, their products and prognosticate about the future.  Michael Dell chatted with Walt earlier today and they covered a wide... It is atypical - and that's being kind - for a tech company to release something early, but here is an example.  According to industry sources quoted by DigiTimes, Asus has decided to release the Eee PC 1000 early. With Micro-Star International (MSI) expected to officially launch its 10-inch Wind series notebooks and Acer planning to launch an 8.9-inch Aspire low-cost PC in Europe priced at 299 euros (US$469.49) over the next few weeks, Asustek Computer has decided to rush forward plans to launch a 10-inch version Eee PC, according to notebook industry sources. With less than two weeks to go until the start of Computex 2008, the whirlwind of product announcements and rumored announcements continue to fly. The latest of which is that ASUS is ready to show off the Eee PC’s desktop cousin. “The only details that have been delivered to use at present are that it contains a 160GB Hard Drive, 2GB ram, will run Linux OS as found on the EeePC. Although no CPU details [are available], the likely suspect is still the Intel Atom.” The fact that Intel’s Atom has been rumored to be in short supply doesn’t bode well for a quick and clean launch, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.  We suspect that we'll get a complete breakdown on the Eee desktop at Computex,... The next-generation Eee PC is due to hit shore shelves on May 12th and carry a price tag of $549, a rather modest hike over current models which top out at $499 for the 8GB SSD/1GB RAM model.  So what does the extra $50 buy? Quite a lot actually: "The Linux version of the Eee PC will come with a 4GB SSD + an additional 16GB internal flash module for a total of 20GB of storage space.  The Windows XP model -- due to the licensing fees associated with Windows -- will only feature an internal flash module of 8GB leaving it with just 12GB of total storage space. The other notable upgrades for the second generation Eee PC include the larger, 8.9" 1024x600 display, 1GB of DDR2 memory, Multi-Touch... Read more...
