These Augmented Reality smart glasses will be built by Vuzix Corp. and are called Vuzix Blade. The AR glasses will be tied to the Alexa voice assistant and will be able to display information the user asks Alexa for in the wearer's field of view, according to Vuzix CEO Paul Travers. If you have never used a projector, you might not know the challenge it can be to get things set up properly. Often to get a big 150-inch image on the wall, you need a giant room with plenty of distance from the wall to throw that image. LG has announced that it will be showing off a new compact and very easy to set up projector at CES 2018 called the HU80K series. "At this year’s CES event, we are excited to bring value to consumers with our first 4K UHD projector, which delivers the highest resolution we’ve ever offered in a compact size," said Chang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT business division. "LG’s 4K UHD projector will lead the way in changing how consumers view 4K... Read more...
When we think of Threadripper, we envision big and burly builds stuffed chock full of high performance hardware. The kind of system that dominates a room, and would elicit a Tim Allen grunt. Well, ASRock has something different in mind, at least in regards to size. Going in the complete opposite direction, ASRock is gearing up to release the world's first micro ATX (M-ATX or mATX) motherboard for Threadripper. That motherboard is the X399M Taichi, essentially a smaller version of the regular ATX-sized X399 Taichi. Like its bigger brother, the X399M Taichi sports a TR4 socket to accommodate AMD's latest high-end desktop (HEDT) stack, all the way to up to the 16-core/32-thread Ryzen Threadripper... Read more...

Upgrading to a mesh network can improve wireless coverage in your home, allowing for faster speeds on devices that sit further away from your router and eliminate dead spots in remote corners. This is especially true if there are several obstructions (walls, doors, and so forth) in your home that sit between your wireless device and router. Unfortunately, upgrading to a mesh setup can be expensive, as it typically requires new equipment. However, ASUS has issued an "AiMesh" update for several of its existing router models that enables them to act as nodes in a mesh network. The update can significantly reduce the cost of upgrading to a mesh network, provided you already own at least one compatible... Read more...
Wireless routers often have pretty good overall coverage inside your home -- especially if you use a mesh router system -- but coverage outside your home can often be spotty at best. If you like lounging poolside while catching up on Breaking Bad reruns, or simple need internet access in your backyard shed/man cave, Netgear is offering up a new solution to meet your needs. The new Orbi Outdoor Satellite is an extension of Netgear's existing Orbi Home Wi-Fi System, which means you already have to be invested into the company's mesh network ecosystem. Like other Orbi products, the Orbi Outdoor Satellite shares the network name with the main Orbi router, which allows for seamless roaming from inside... Read more...
Nissan has pulled the wraps of some new research that it claims will allow vehicles to interpret signals from the brain of the driver and redefine how people interact with their cars. Nissan calls it Brain-to-Vehicle, or B2V technology. The Japanese auto giant claims that it will speed up reaction times for driver and eventually lead to cars that adapt to make driving more enjoyable. Nissan will be showing off the new B2V technology at CES 2018. Yet B2V technology does the opposite, by using signals from their own brain to make the drive even more... Read more...

Android Auto has been around for a while now and allows users to connect their Android smartphone to compatible infotainment systems in cars, along with some aftermarket audio systems. The catch is that connecting the smartphone to these infotainment systems requires a cable and a USB port. Having to connect your phone via a cable to use the features is not ideal, especially considering that many cars now include as standard (or as an option) wireless charging pads. That is about to change with JVCKENWOOD announcing that it will be showing off a new line of products under the JVC band that will be Wi-Fi enabled and support wireless connectivity for Android Auto use. That means you can wirelessly... Read more...

Energous is a company that has been working on what many people have lusted after for years: true wireless charging of devices. We aren’t talking about having to sit your smartphone or other device down on a pad to charge them without having to fiddle with wires; that has been available for many years now. What Energous is talking about is wireless charging through the air. That means you leave your smartphone in your bag or pocket and it would charge automatically. That Nano IPS technology uses nanometer-sized particles within the screen's LEDs to absorb excess light wavelengths. That application enhances intensity and purity of colors according to LG allowing for a more life-like viewing experience. The monitor is able to show 98% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, which LG says is comparable to the monitors used when mastering Hollywood films. The 32UK950 monitor has peak brightness of 600 candela. LG also says that this... Read more...
System builders have been releasing new and refreshed laptop models built around Intel's recently launched 8th Generation Core processor family for mobile (Kaby Lake Refresh or Kaby Lake-R, not to be confused with Coffee Lake on the desktop). Samsung is among them, having just launched three Notebook 9 models for 2018, and a Notebook 9 Pen SKU that comes with its S Pen stylus. "At Samsung, we have long felt that technology must fit within the lives of the consumer, not the other way around. Leaks have been tipping Samsung's hand when it comes to what the company will be showing off at CES 2018 set to kick off early early January. Previously we heard that the folding screen Galaxy X smartphone would be on display at the show. However, a new rumor is making the rounds that suggests Samsung's next Galaxy flagships, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, will also be seen for the first time at CES 2018. A reveal at CES is uncommon for new high-end smartphones, but it seems Samsung may want to unveil its wares at a show that isn’t festooned with other smartphones to steal its thunder. CES is traditionally more about gadgets and computers than smartphones. One thing that is unclear is if Samsung... Read more...

However, it appears that the wunderkinds in the Dell engineering lab have yet another XPS 13 on the horizon, and we got a sneak peek at it this week at the company's Austin, Texas Parmer campus. This latest XPS 13 features a different design aesthetic than we're used to with Dell notebooks -- it actually has a white finish. The laptop has a woven glass fiber textured palm rest/keyboard deck, which is pure white in color. Dell went the woven glass fiber route because you can't simply paint the hybrid carbon fiber used on... Read more...
