LG Announces 34-inch 5K Ultrawide Nano-IPS Display With HDR Support

LG has announced that it will be bringing new computer displays to CES 2018, and they are both quite impressive. The first is the LG 32UK950, which is a 32-inch UHD 4K monitor with support for HDR600 and LG's Nano IPS technology integrated. That Nano IPS technology uses nanometer-sized particles within the screen's LEDs to absorb excess light wavelengths.

That application enhances intensity and purity of colors according to LG allowing for a more life-like viewing experience. The monitor is able to show 98% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, which LG says is comparable to the monitors used when mastering Hollywood films. The 32UK950 monitor has peak brightness of 600 candela.

LG also says that this is the first Thunderbolt 3 docking display to support 4K daisy chaining, allowing for easy setup of dual 4K monitors. The Thunderbolt 3 support also means that the display can connect with notebooks supporting the specification like the MacBook Pro with no charging adapter or USB cables needed. Thunderbolt 3 can transmit both video and around while providing enough power to charge a 60W notebook computer. LG also uses a 4-side Edge Borderless Design where "the picture literally drops off the edge."

The 32UK950 isn't the only high-end computer display that LG will be showing off at CES 2018. The company will also have a 34-inch Ultrawide monitor 34WK95U that will support 5K resolution at 5120 x 2160. This will be the first LG 21:9 aspect ratio monitor and promises bold and accurate colors. This display also uses the Nano IPS tech and uses Thunderbolt 3 to enable 5K resolution at 60Hz. No pricing or availability information is offered on either of these monitors.

"Most of us spend hundreds of hours in front of monitors every month and yet it’s one of the least likely products to get upgraded when higher productivity is desired," said Chang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT business division. "With these latest premium monitors from LG, we wanted to communicate that LG is absolutely committed to delivering the best possible screen resolution and the best user experience on a desk or workspace."
