The TouchSmart 520-1070 is a fairly remarkable AIO equipped with high-end hardware and a robust selection of software, all of which comes wrapped in a 23-inch touchscreen display with a speaker bar blasting out Beats Audio. Any fears that HP's recent preoccupation with righting its ship would result in a degraded product line go right out the window when you run your finger down the 520's spec sheet, which includes an Intel Core i7 2600S processor clocked at 2.8GHz, 8GB of DDR3 system memory, a capacious 2TB hard drive, discrete graphics powered by AMD's Radeon HD 6450A GPU, and even a Blu-ray burner. Oh, and there's a TV tuner shoved inside too, for good measure... HP Touchsmart 520 All-in-One... Read more...
Considering how close HP came to selling off or severing its world leading PC division, it's products like the new TouchSmart 520-1070 all-in-one (AIO) that make us glad somebody switched out the company's water supply. Actually, it's HP's old CEO, Leo Apotheker, who was responsible for the OEM's temporary insanity, and not some tainted H2O, but that's a rant for another time and another place. What we're focusing on here is an AIO system that comes well spec'd and offers a surprising amount of performance in a form factor typically more focused on aesthetics and convenience than raw computing power. The TouchSmart 520-1070 is a fairly remarkable AIO equipped with high-end hardware and a robust... Read more...
We’re making our way around the show floor at the Consumer Electronics Show and have some interesting tid-bits to share with you all from our tours of the Intel and SuperMicro booths in the Central and South Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center.             Not surprisingly, much of Intel’s focus this year has been on Ultrabooks. There are Ultrabooks virtually everywhere and all of Intel’s major mobile partners have shown off current or future Ultrabook desings in their respective displays or in Intel’s. There is a large tower at the corner of Intel’s gigantic booth with a myriad of Ultrabooks on display from partners like... Read more...
If you walk into any Walmart and head over to the HDTV section, one of the brands that will jump out at you is Vizio, which has built a reputation for building and selling comparatively affordable TV sets. In a way, Vizio is to TVs what Rosewill is to PC parts -- value oriented. Perhaps bored with focusing almost entirely on HDTVs (Vizio also dabbles in related equipment, like home theater speakers and Blu-ray players, as well as tablet PCs), Vizio is reportedly taking its low-cost mojo over to the PC industry. In an interview with USA Today, Vizio's chief technology officer, Matt McRae, goes into a bit of detail about new PCs Vizio plans to unveil at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas... Lost in the shuffle of Ultrabooks, tablet PCs, and everything else that dominated the headlines in 2011 is the all-in-one (AIO) PC market. We've seen several new AIO models emerge over the past 12 months or so, and who knows, maybe in another year or two these things will replace traditional desktop towers in the mainstream market. That would be good news for Apple, whose iMac systems lead the pack in terms of market share. According to figures provided by DisplaySearch, iMacs accounted for nearly a third -- 32.9 percent if you want to split hairs -- of AIO shipments in the third quarter, Bloomberg reports. Barely visible in Apple's rear-view mirror is Lenovo, which took up the No. 2 spot with... Read more...

The AIO PC form factor isn't new by any means, but it's only recently begun to make a broad market appearance across a number of manufacturers beyond Apple or HP, who were among the first to pioneer the form factor. Better touchscreen technology, combined with lower prices, has made AIO PCs both practical and affordable. The ET2410 from Asus attempts to be both of these things. It's an $850 system built around Intel's Sandy Bridge platform and packaged in an ultra-slim body that looks fashionable and takes up very little space, despite bringing a sizable 23.6-inch touchscreen to the AIO party... Don't let the doomsayers sell you on the idea that the desktop PC is dead. Far from it, desktops are just now entering their heyday with blazing fast multi-core processors, gobs of RAM, high definition output, SuperSpeed USB 3.0, HDMI connectivity, wireless input devices, and everything else you might find on a modern day system. No, desktops aren't dying; if anything, they're finding new ways of securing a permanent spot in your living room, your office, your dorm room, and even places like your kitchen counter or man cave. All of these areas are places all-in-one (AIO) PCs have been known to dwell. The AIO form factor isn't new by any means, but it's only recently begun to make a broad market... Read more...

Quick, what do you call a computer that's only partially upgradeable, is expensive to do so, and typically costs a fair amount more than the sum of its parts? Do'h! Okay, okay, we should have clarified that we're not looking for the easy answer, which is an "Apple PC." Try again. Did you say, "All-in-One PC?" If so, jump around like a mad man and high five your co-workers, because you're absolutely right (and because it's fun to freak them out every once in awhile). We just outlined the reasons why we're so intrigued by Gigabyte's new GB-AEDT. Hidden behind that boring name is a 21.5-inch whitebox AIO. It's built around Intel's Thin Mini-ITX standard and is being billed as a fully modulated AIO... Read more...
All-in-one (AIO) systems like Apple's iMacs or the Asus 2400ET that were reviewed earlier this year are much like notebooks, in that they trade potential upgradeability for convenience and a smaller footprint. RAM is the one component users can count on being able to upgrade, though some models may offer an additional hard drive bay or a slot for a mini-PCIe card. The ECS G11 is a different sort of animal; ECS is marketing the system as featuring a user-replaceable motherboard. The system ships with a bog-standard mini-ITX board based on Intel's H61 chipset, supports up to 8GB of DDR3-1333, includes a slim DVD optical drive, a 150W power adapter, and wireless support. USB 2.0 connectivity is... Read more...

MSI is certainly no stranger to the all-in-one market, so what makes the company's new Wind Top AC1900 different from all the rest? According to MSI, the AC1900 is fit for "people of all ages," be it your 8-year-old son or your 78-year-old grandmother. Just because everyone can use it doesn't everyone will want to use it, namely gamers and power users. That's nothing new in the All-in-One market, but in this case, it bears repeating. In and round the AC1900 you'll find a Celeron dual-core E3400 (2.6GHz, 1MB cache, 800MHz FSB), 2GB of DDR3 memory, integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, a 320GB hard drive, DVD burner, six USB ports, 4-in-1 memory card reader, a pair of 2W speakers, 802.11g/b Wi-Fi,...
