Maingear Boards the All-in-One Bandwagon with Solo PC Series

Maingear specializes in high-performance desktops from a boutique perspective, and as you'll see in an upcoming review of a SHIFT Super Stock X79 system we have on tap, these guys know how to build some wicked fast systems. They also know how to spot a popular market trend and roll with it, as the company is doing with its freshly unveiled Solo 21 All-in-One (AIO) system.

"With more consumers looking for a full-size desktop computer without the hassle of wires and other connections, the Maingear Solo 21 All-in-One provides the freedom of space while still offering the latest technology," Maingear explains. "Following their trend of fully customizable products, the Maingear Solo 21 is the first fully upgradeable all-in-one today, including the ability to upgrade the motherboard to accommodate future technology advances."

We've seen some upgradeable AIO systems in the past, but none that have made it easy to get inside and swap out the motherboard as Maingear claims is the case with its Solo 21. That isn't the only unique feature. Maingear says the Solo 21 is the first AIO to sport SSD caching.

A default configuration looks like this:
  • Intel Core i3 2125 processor (3.3GHz) upgradeable to a Core i7 2600S (3.8GHz)
  • Intel DH61AG motherboard
  • 4GB DDR3-1333 memory (upgradeable to 16GB)
  • 32GB SSD caching drive featuring NVELO Dataplex software
  • 500GB hard drive (supports up to 2TB)
  • DVD burner
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi; Bluetooth
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

The above setup runs $1,000, which is fairly impressive for an AIO with a boutique pedigree and all the upgradeability that's infused. It has a 21.5-inch Full HD 1080 LED-backlit display, and for an additional $129, you can upgrade to one with a 10-point touch interface.

The Maingear Solo 21 is available to configure and purchase now.
