Core i7-8086K 40th Anniversary CPU Review: Intel X86 Hits 5GHz

Intel Core i7-8086K: Performance Comparisons (Cont.)

Next up, we have handful of graphics and gaming-related benchmarks with the Core i7-8086K Anniversary Edition, including 3DMark Fire Strike, Middle Earth: Shadow Of War, and Rise Of The Tomb Raider, at both 1080p (medium quality) and 4K (high quality) resolutions.

The 3DMark Physics benchmark is a multi-threaded test. It shows the Core i7-8086K finishing right alongside the Core i7-8700K, which is what you would expect based on their similar multi-core turbo frequencies.

If we move on to the more graphics-centric tests in 3DMark, the Core i7-8086K puts up similar framerates in GT1 and GT2 to the 8700K (they technically trade victories), though the overall score give the 8086K an ever so slight edge.

Actual in-game tests with Middle Earth: Shadow Of War and Rise Of The Tomb Raider show the Core i7-8086K taking the lead in both games, when playing at 1080p with medium graphics quality presets. At this relatively low resolution, the CPU has more of an impact on performance because the GPU isn’t the sole performance bottleneck.

With game resolutions cranked up to 4K, with more taxing high-quality graphics presents, things level out as the CPUs wait for the GPU to catch up. Although, the Core i7-8086K does still finish at (or very near) the top of the charts.
