If you are a fan of
Titanfall, and the battle royale genre as well, you may soon be in for a real treat. Rumor has it that
Apex Legends, a
battle royale Titanfall spin-off, will be released as soon as Monday, February 4th. The game is reportedly free-to-play and will be available on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
eSports consultant Rod Breslau stated on Twitter that the game will feature, “classes/heroes with unique abilities, maximum of 60 players per server, maximum of 3 players per team (trios) to complement each other.” Another tipster remarked that the game is a mixture of
Titanfall,
Overwatch, and
Blackout from
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Titanfall 2
Like the first two
Titanfall games,
Apex Legends runs on a modified Source engine. Loot boxes and
microtranscations will resemble
Overwatch’s system. Interestingly,
Apex Legends will not include any of the iconic Titan mech suits.
There is other evidence that bolsters this rumor.
EA trademarked both "Project Apex" and "Apex Legends" this past autumn. The descriptions says that they are “Computer game software; Video game software; Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices” and “Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game”. The URL “playapex.com” also redirects users to the EA website. Even if the rumors are untrue, EA is certainly doing something with the name “Apex Legends”.
Titanfall 2
Why is Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind
Titanfall and
Titanfall 2, releasing a
battle royale game instead of
Titanfall 3?
Kotaku news editor Jason Schreier stated that he had heard from his connections that Respawn was indeed working on
Titanfall 3. They decided to use the same engine they used for
Titanfall and
Titanfall 2, but found that the game looked rather dated. He theorized that Repawn has decided to switch engines and that they hope that
Apex Legends will satisfy fans until
Titanfall 3 can be released.
Respawn is also currently working on
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game’s storyline takes place after
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith or after Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader. Unlike other Respawn games,
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player game. The game should be released by the end of 2019. Until then, Respawn fans will hopefully be able to sink their teeth into
Apex Legends.
