The early response to Samsung's newest foldables has been spectacular. According to Samsung, global preorders for its new
Galaxy Z8 lineup comprised of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, are up 30% compared to last year's numbers, putting the handsets on pace to break every record Samsung has ever set for folding phones.
So far, Graphite is proving to be the most popular color option for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is seeing more Pink preorders than any of the other colorways. If narrowing the focus to customers between 15-34 years old, then Green Shadow, Pistachio, and Mint—exclusive colorways—are the top choices for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8, respectively, according to Samsung.
"The new Galaxy Z Series is Samsung’s most complete foldable line-up to date, adding the new Galaxy Z Fold8 to the well-established Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 models," Samsung says.
Color options aside, the pre-release sales momentum is tracking across all major regions. In South Korea, the new series pulled in 1.44 million preorders, clearing the historical milestone previously held by the Galaxy Note 10. Meanwhile, European and U.K. sales figures surpassed previous records by over 17%, and there is still a day to go before the handsets release.
Beating past records is a notable achievement, but the timing is just as important for Samsung.
The company is rushing to secure market share ahead of a busy autumn for the next wave of foldables. In addition to Samsung's newest lineup, Google is prepping its Pixel 11 Pro Fold
debut on August 12, and rumors continue to swirl around Apple's long-awaited
entry into the foldable market as well.
