Just when we thought there was nothing left to leak in regards to
Samsung's upcoming
Galaxy S10 product family, a Norwegian TV station said, 'Hold my beer' and proceeded to air a commercial for the Galaxy S10+. This did not happen only once, mind you, but twice before the station realized its apparent error and yanked the ad.
Well, supposedly it was an error, anyway. Who really knows with these things—it's long been thought that Samsung and Apple intentionally leak information about upcoming product launches to drum up excitement and create a bunch of buzz. The Galaxy S10 in particular has been subject to numerous
leaks and rumors, this being the latest one.
We are going off of translated text here, but as the story goes, TV 2 in Norway is to blame for the advertisement playing prematurely. It aired twice on Good Morning Norway, according to Jan-Petter, the TV station's media manager. Jan-Petter said the station mistakenly ran the ad too early, and that it will air again later this week (after the official launch).
The ad showcases the Galaxy S10+ and confirms a few features, not the least of which is the punch-hole design for the front-facing camera. Previously
leaked renders left little doubt that Samsung was going that route, and this commercial seals the deal.
Samsung's ad also references an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded into the front of the phone and
reverse wireless charging, which are two other features that were previously rumored. As for the camera arrangement, we clearly see three camera sensors on the back of the phone, along with an LED flash. On the front, the pill-shaped punch-hole cutout houses two cameras. According to the advertisement, the Galaxy S10+ "makes all pictures epic."
Unfortunately, the ad makes no mention of the hardware inside, so we'll still have to wait for official confirmation from Samsung. That said, the Galaxy S10+ is expected to wield a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a 2960x1440 resolution, powered by a
Snapdragon 855 or
Exynos 9820 processor and 6GB of RAM, with 64GB of built-in storage. There is also said to be a limited edition model with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The ad also confirms that Samsung will bundle a set of wireless
Galaxy Buds with the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, when pre-ordering either handset.
All will be revealed tomorrow, February 20, during Samsung's Unpacked event.
