Microsoft Teases 'All-New Xbox Hardware' For Gamescom Reveal

Microsoft revealed this morning that it will be announcing "all-new Xbox hardware and accessories" and "perhaps a few surprises" at this year's Gamescom, which is being held in Cologne, Germany. Microsoft will be making its big reveal during the Inside Xbox Show that will be broadcast live from Gamescom 2018 August 21st at 10:30am EST.

Xbox One X

Even though the current generation Xbox One was initially released in late 2013 and saw subsequent updates with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X in 2016 and 2017 respectively, we aren't likely to see next-generation Xbox hardware at the event. In fact, we're quite certain that this won't be the case.  Microsoft did, however, confirm that it will have new Xbox One bundles and accessories to unveil at the show along with some incoming games.

While new console bundles aren't exactly exciting -- especially if you already own an Xbox One S or Xbox One X -- the new accessories comment does have our attention. It's rumored that Microsoft will unveil a follow-up to the Elite Controller, which was first released in 2015. That highly customizable controller was praised for its interchangeable buttons and hair trigger locks among other features.

Microsoft Xbox Elite Wireless Controller

The new Elite Controller, according to a leak earlier this year, will allegedly replace the "dated" microUSB port with USB-C and will feature Bluetooth connectivity. You won't need to have an Xbox Wireless Adapter, built-in Xbox hardware on your PC, or a cable to connect the controller to your PC. Other features reportedly on deck include 3-level hair triggers and longer key travel.

The refreshed Elite Controller is also said to come with a new case that will charge the peripheral when you’re done playing.
