AMD FSR 4.1 Brings AI Upscaling To Radeon RX 6000 GPUs And Xbox
Back in March, FSR 4.1 originally came out for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards, and the firm promised to bring the technology to older GPUs and handhelds this year. It made good on that promise in late June when the tech hit Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, but at that time it was only available to discrete GPUs. Now, all RDNA 2 and 3 graphics chips as well as RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics have access to the latest upscaling tech "in over 400 games", according to AMD—although this value counts games "supported" via a driver-level replacement toggle.
Xbox console owners will get to enjoy the new tech too, but it's not as simple as ticking a toggle in the console dashboard. In AMD's announcement video (below), Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet says that Microsoft has "worked very closely with AMD to optimize this technology [...] our teams are continuing to work together across hardware and software, and there's even more ahead with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power what comes next." We still don't know much about what FSR Diamond actually is, but it was announced back in March with the company's Project Helix next-gen device.
The ML-based FSR 4.1 represents a huge upgrade over the company's analytical FSR 3 in terms of image quality, and it's great to have the feature available to more gamers, although I feel like it's worth noting that FSR 4 has actually been available to PC gamers for most of 2026, at least as an unofficial mod. Actually, DLSS is available to Radeon gamers as an unofficial mod now, too. But it's nice to see AMD proceeding with official support, since plenty of users are unable or unwilling to fool around with tools like Optiscaler.
