There is a new-found push to market, lightweight 2-in-1 devices as productivity tools for business-savvy road warriors. That has occasionally been an angle, though for the most part, the appeal of these convertible systems has largely been their ability to function as both a tablet and a general purpose laptop for lightweight computing or media consumption duties. There have been previous attempts to expand the 2-in-1 category into the business market, and that is where Lenovo's new ThinkPad X1 Tablet fits in.What we have in for review is Lenovo's second generation ThinkPad X1 Tablet for 2017.... Hybrid 2-in-1 tablet convertible devices like Samsung's new Galaxy Book 12 are a tough gig. Striking a balance between ultimate portability, performance, and battery life is not easy when it comes to the well-under 2 pound device class of products. That said, Microsoft made a go of it with the very popular Surface Pro series, and since then, even Apple has been trying to catch that elusive upscale large tablet convertible mojo, and mostly unsuccessfully we might add.  Further, Microsoft has been asleep at the switch for a while, without a proper Surface hybrid refresh for what is essentially... The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 may be one of the better-equipped tablets for consumers looking for a device that has it all – multimedia and productivity chops, useful feature adds and good looks as well.  With its HDR-ready screen, quad speakers, S Pen, optional keyboard, and all-glass design, the Galaxy Tab S3 has a lot to offer. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 features a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display that supports HDR content, though there are some caveats to this which we’ll discuss later in this review. To further enhance the multimedia experience on this tablet, Samsung has included quad-stereo... Read more...
Remember when convertible notebooks were considered a luxury? That's especially true for convertibles that have four different modes: laptop, stand, tent, and tablet. It was also considered a luxury to have a notebook that could last more than 10 hours on a single battery charge. Acer's TravelMate Spin B1 has all of those features, so it must fetch quite the premium, right? Nope - this laptop starts out at a meager $299 USD. Acer unveiled this laptop at a Microsoft education event, so its target audience is going to be obvious from the get-go. That also inherently means that there are going to... Read more...
HP is not one to let the weeds grow under its feet, at least not when it comes to its Spectre x360 line. The company it has no problem changing things up in an effort to keep its premium ultraportable hip and trendy. Having already gone through a few mild wardrobe changes over the past few years, the newest iteration of the Spectre x360 brings another slightly different look than last year's model -- one that is perhaps more refined and mature. It retains the gold accents introduced by its predecessor, but does not flaunt them quite as loudly. Other upgrades are not as subtle. HP continues... Read more...
It seems as though everyone is out to paint a target on Microsoft’s back when it comes to challenging the likes of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Samsung is the latest to rise to the occasion with the unwrapping of the Galaxy Book 12 and Galaxy Book 10. Both tablets run Windows 10 and are backed by 12-inch and 10.6-inch displays respectively. The flagship Galaxy Book 12 comes with a Super AMOLED display that has a resolution of 2160x1440. The display also supports 10-bit HDR, which should help videos and other digital content spring to life. This high-end tablet is powered by the latest... Read more...
It shouldn't be too shocking to learn that there are many people anxious to get their mitts on Nintendo's Switch console, and thanks to one retailer that didn't check its calendar carefully, many people are now envious of one lucky customer who managed to get their unit a full two weeks early. That lucky user is Hiphoptherobot, who happens to frequent popular gaming site NeoGAF and decided to show off his unexpected wares. In a three-minute video posted to Vidme, Hiphoptherobot shows us what we can expect to see after powering on the Switch tablet for the first time. While there's not a lot to... Read more...
Dell's XPS 13 and 15 line of notebooks have done well for the company, sparked by a reinvention of the product line back in 2015. Since then, its design signature has reached iconic status for Round Rock, with the ultra-thin bezel of its Infinity Edge display and hatched carbon fiber composite palm rest and keyboard area earning the series many awards, including our Editor's Choice on multiple occasions. And as you might expect, Dell has continued to evolve its well-received XPS product offerings, not only as new notebook platform architectures roll out, but the company is also now looking... Lenovo will likely have a major presence at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month as it introduces several new mobile devices. One of them will be the Tab3 8 Plus (TB-8703), an 8-inch tablet that is not yet official but might as well be thanks to the latest leak. An Italian-language website got its virtual mitts on a handful of press renders and what looks to be a plausible spec sheet.Based on the leaked photos, the Tab3 8 Plus will ship in at least two color options, silver and blue. Buyers will be able to choose between a Wi-Fi only model (TB-8703F) or one that has both Wi-Fi and... Read more...
Nokia is officially back in the branded smartphone business with the launch of its Nokia 6, a mid-range Android handset that reports say sold out in under a minute in China, but that is not the only big news attached to the company. It would appear that Nokia is also getting ready to release a humongous tablet, one that will sport an 18.4-inch display with a 2560x1440 display resolution. Specifications for the massive tablet showed up on GFXBench. The gargantuan device could also be an upcoming all-in-one (AIO) system, though being an Android device powered by an ARM-based processor, it is more... Read more...
If you're in a situation where your phone has data, but your tablet doesn't, and Wi-Fi isn't an immediate option, things can get frustrating pretty quickly. Consider checking into a hotel, for example, which only allows one or two devices to connect to the Wi-Fi - that's a major roadblock for those with their families, or those with multiple devices. While your smartphone is charging, you could be kicking back using the tablet, for example. That assumes that the hotel's Internet service allows you access without dinging you again for another device. Situations like those or similar will be less... Read more...
Lenovo recently released one of the most interesting tablet hybrids in recent memory, just in time for the holidays. The Yoga Book has a digital keyboard that doubles as a sketch pad that even accommodates plain old paper, giving users several ways to draw images or jot notes. In fact, the tablet aspect of the machine is one of the most creative (and fun) concepts we’ve seen this year. The Yoga Book differs from traditional tablet first hybrid devices in several ways, but the most noticeable of these is the permanently attached keyboard, which is a departure from traditional 10-inch tablet... If you're in the market for a new tablet that also doubles as an e-reader, you may want to hold off for just a little bit. Rumors suggest Barnes & Noble will be releasing a new iteration of its NOOK Tablet in the very near future to battle in the low-end sector of the tablet market traditionally dominated by the Amazon Kindle Fire. According to the leaked specs, it seems certain that this NOOK, called Tablet 7, will not be that expensive. It is likely being used to help Barnes & Noble better compete against the likes of Amazon, which itself offers a meager-spec'd Fire tablet for a... Read more...
