We've heard mention of shared data plans in the past from Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam, who has said shared data plans will become available by the end of the year, but details concerning the actual plan or release date were relatively sparse. During Verizon's first-quarter earnings call yesterday, we learned a little more about the wireless carrier's plans to launch a shared data plan. Although the exact details concerning the shared data plans are still unknown, Verizon CFO Francis Shammo said Verizon Wireless is planning to launch shared data plans by the middle of the summer, which gives us a slightly more specific time frame than the end of the year. LG and Verizon Wireless have brought the same display technology used in LG's premium HD televisions to a new smartphone dubbed the Spectrum. Featuring a 4.5-inch True HD IPS display and a resolution of 1280x720, the LG Spectrum uses Real Stripe subpixel arrangement which LG says is denser and 1.4 times sharper than the PenTile subpixel arrangement used on Super AMOLED displays. The phone's display features a screen density of 329 pixels per inch to provide a sharp, crisp picture that shows fine details. After Verizon Wireless expands its 4G LTE network to 27 new markets and adds additional coverage in 44 markets on Thursday, April 19, the wireless carrier will cover more than two-thirds of the U.S. population with its fast LTE network, and the company isn't done yet. By the end of this year, Verizon Wireless plans to offer its 4G LTE network in more than 400 markets, making the service available to more than 260 million people in the United States. On April 22, Verizon Wireless plans to begin charging users for the ability to upgrade to the latest and greatest phone. In the past, Verizon Wireless has offered an additional $30 discount to customers who wanted to upgrade phones provided they had completed at least 20 months of their two-year contract. After the new policy goes into effect, an upgrade will cost about $60 more than before due to the loss of the $30 discount and the addition of the $30 fee. Remember the Galaxy Tab 7.7 device Samsung announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year in Las Vegas? Well it's about to land at Verizon Wireless where it will be sold exclusively beginning March 1, 2012 for $500 with a two-year service agreement and qualifying 4G LTE mobile broadband plan (pricing starts at $30/month for 2GB of data). If you're in need of a 4G LTE smartphone and don't want to break the bank, you're in luck. Verizon Wireless is now selling two if its newer 4G LTE handsets -- LG Spectrum and HTC Rezound -- for just $100 each, with a requisite two-year service agreement, naturallly. That's a pretty good deal no matter which of these spiffy Android devices you choose, both of which feature 1.5GHz dual-core processors, 1GB of RAM,  qHD displays, and of course 4G LTE radios. Here we thought HTC was going to slow things down a tick after announcing another round of comparatively disappointing financial results, but so far that hasn't been the case. We've heard about the Motorola Droid 4 for a while now, but only recently did we get an official release date for this phone. This new smartphone will be available this Friday, February 10. As you may recall, the Motorola Droid 4 claims to be the thinnest and most powerful 4G smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard. A new MAP (minimum advertised price) list from Verizon has been tipped online and it reveals a number of discounted Droid devices, including the upcoming Droid 4. The wireless carrier is now offering the DROID RAZR, minus the previously included 16GB microSD card, for $100 less than the initial price offering. Although the Droid 4 hasn't been officially released yet, that hasn't stopped Best Buy from using this upcoming phone in a promotional advertisement. A recent Reward Zone promotion shows the upcoming phone, which makes us wonder if the retailer thought the phone was going to launch this month. (Old rumors once suggested this phone would launch in December, but that hasn’t happened.) The Droid 4 looks similar to the Droid RAZR with its shaved corners, but this phone also features a slide-out keyboard with backlit keys.
