ThinkGeek, a website that we hit up on occasion for novelty items to soothe the geek's soul, is closing up shop. The company has an online presence at ThinkGeek.com and it also has 40 brick and mortar locations scattered across the United States. While the physical stores will remain open -- for now -- the website will shut down on July 2nd, 2019. For those looking to purchase ThinkGeek items online, you will be able to do so from GameStop, which is its parent company. According to a blog post, there will be a special ThinkGeek section setup at GameStop.com where you'll find the usual assortment of geeky gear. Nintendo promised months ago that it would build more of the SNES Classic Edition consoles that it did of the hugely successful NES Classic Edition last year. The catch, as we all knew it would be, was that demand still outstripped supply for SNES Classic Edition hopefuls. This means that the initial stock of the retro console dried up quickly. The good news is that GameStop and ThinkGeek are gearing up with a new batch of consoles for fans to fight over this week. We’re less than two weeks away from Christmas, and despite assurances from Nintendo that there would be plenty NES Classic Edition stock available for customers, supplies remain tight. As recently as last week, Nintendo of America chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime said, “Our biggest challenge is making sure that we’re constantly replenishing it to the marketplace. So, as we sit here today, two weeks before Christmas, I think consumers are going to be able to get their hands on it.” Given the instant sell-out status at places like Amazon, Walmart, Toys R Us and Urban Outfitters, we’re having a hard time believing Fils-Aime.
