If you have been intrigued by the smartwatch revolution, but have yet to find a model to suit your higher-end tastes, TAG Heuer might just have you covered. The company's new Connected Modular 45 isn't just beautiful, it's modular (as the name suggests), allowing you to use it as a smartwatch one minute, and as a regular mechanical watch the next. TAG Heuer emphasizes the fact that this watch carries the Swiss Made label, ensuring that fans of higher-end timepieces take it a little more seriously. Still, it's a bold design, especially since its modularity could be seen to some as a gimmick. At a formal function, a Connected Modular 45 owner might choose to replace the smartwatch module with a... Read more...
It looks as though TAG Heuer has a hit on its hands with its Connected Watch. The company announced the Android Wear smartwatch in early November, and it’s priced well above other devices running Google’s wearable operating system, coming in at $1,500. However, that high price tag hasn’t been enough to keep customers away. The Swiss watchmaker announced that it has received over 100,000 orders for the Connected from its various retail partners and subsidiaries. As a result, the company is increasing production from 1,200 units per week to 2,000 units per week. Demand has been so strong that TAG Heuer parent company LVMH will suspend online sales of the Connected until mid-2016, so that it can... Read more...
$1,500 is a lot to spend on a smartwatch, but TAG Heuer reckons that the high price tag won’t matter given the pedigree attached to its newest wearable. Today, TAG Heuer officially announced its Connected Watch, which is its fist watch to run Google’s Android Wear operating system. The Connected takes more than a few cues from TAG Heuer’s own Carrera analog watch, but replaces the intricately designed and assembled mechanical internals with microchips. TAG Heuer worked closely with both Google and Intel while developing the Connected, as the company wanted to make the right first impression when entering the smartwatch market — after all, no one wants to sully the company’s brand with a rubbish... Is the world ready for a luxury smartwatch running Android Wear, a special version of Android designed specifically for wearables? We'll find out in another 27 days. Come November 9, 2015, Tag Heuer will launch a premium smartwatch driven by Android Wear, and it will have a premium price tag to match. Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver told CNBC in an interview that his company's forthcoming smartwatch will cost $1,800, which is $400 more than the figure that was making the rounds in previous reports. That's a lot to ask for a wrist accessory, though it's still far cheaper than Apple's top end Watch Edition, which starts at $10,000. There's a countdown timer on Tag Heuer's website that leads up... It looks as though Apple is about to get some major competition in the luxury smartwatch space. Yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook lambasted existing players in the smartwatch field, stating, “We were arguably the first modern smartphone, and we will be the first modern smartwatch—the first one that matters.” Today, three companies are working together to ensure that Apple doesn’t get a stranglehold on the smartwatch market with its Apple Watch. Google, which already provides the Android Wear platform for wearables, is teaming up with chipmaker Intel and luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer. The three companies will work together to bring the first truly luxury-oriented Android Wear device to the market by... Read more...
