Are you one of the millions of Americans that are sick and tired of paying high rates for cable TV and satellite packages? Many are paying outrageous prices for dozens (or even hundreds) of channels that they probably don't even watch. Given the rising costs of TV packages, more and more people are cutting the cord. Just how expensive have cable and satellite TV options become over the years? Well, according to Kagan, S&P Global Market Intelligence, the average monthly cost for premium TV packages has increased 74 percent since 2000 from just under $60 to nearly $100. Given that median wages... Read more...
A la carte TV streaming services, or "skinny bundles", are becoming more popular these days. Astute customers aren't keen on paying inflated priced for hundreds of channels that they may never watch, so these pick-and-choose streaming TV services are an economical way to view a select few channels that interest you the most. Spectrum is the latest to jump on the bandwagon with Spectrum TV Choice, which is being rolled out to a larger segment of the company's subscriber base. Spectrum TV Choice was initially only available in a few pilot markets, but according to a new report, it has been expanded... Read more...
If binge-watching is the name of your game, then Dish has a treat for you. The direct-broadcast satellite service provider just debuted the AirTV, a 4K Android TV-supported device that allows users to stream from one place. AirTV was accidentally leaked last month, before its CES 2017 debut. The AirTV permits Sling TV customers to add live local broadcast stations (OTA) for free through an external antenna. The local broadcasts will be seamlessly added to the list of Sling TV offerings, without having to change the input. Local channels include ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, CW, etc.... Read more...
Dish Network has been trying to disrupt the traditional cable TV model with Sling TV, its live TV streaming service for cord cutters that starts at $20 per month for over 30 channels. To make the proposition even more appealing, Sling TV is launching its own set-top box called AirTV Player. Subscribers will be able to use the set-top box to scan local TV channels from their digital antenna and combine that content with Sling TV's streaming channels. It supports Netflix, too. "Get the live channels you love and the shows you can't miss. Watch Sling TV on AirTV Player, and enjoy live sports, shows,... Read more...
NBC-owned and operated (O&O) stations in San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. are refusing to air an advertisement for Sling TV that paints a poor picture of the traditional pay-TV model. In response, the Dish Network-owned Internet TV provider slammed Comcast, which in turn owns NBC, in a blog post waxing angry over its censorship. "Here's the irony. The refusal to air our campaign endorses the ads' central truth: there are traditional pay TV-players that just don't get it," said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV. "And what is it that they dn't get? Innovation benefits customers. Sling... Read more...
Remember Dish Network’s Sling TV service? The streaming service launched to much fanfare earlier this year and secured 100,000 subscribers during its first month of availability. For a price of $20 per month, customers can access nearly twenty channels (including ESPN and TBS, and CNN) with the option to add themed packages like Movies and Sports for $5 each. Comcast is now launching its own service, called Stream, which gives Xfinity Internet customers access to roughly a dozen channels for $15 per month (this is paid in addition to your existing internet charges). The channel lineup will include... Read more...
Sling TV is certainly emerging as a disruptive force, and if you're looking for just one more reason to cut the cord with your cable or satellite TV provider, the addition of HBO might be the nudge you need. The streaming live TV provider added HBO to its programming lineup today, making it the only live Internet TV service to offer the HBO's content on both a linear and Video-On-Demand (VOD) basis, the company said. Adding HBO to Sling TV's service costs an additional $15 per month over the $20/month core package. So for $35 per month, you can have access to ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, A&E, TNT, History,... Read more...
Following its official public launch in early February, Dish Network’s Sling TV streaming service is off to fast start. Sling TV, which costs $20 per month, captured 100,000 subscribers during its first month of availability and the momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Fresh news today from The Wall Street Journal (no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke) suggests that the adoption of Sling TV may skyrocket again thanks to the inclusion of HBO. According to the WSJ, Time Warner Cable — the parent company of HBO — and Dish Network have come to an agreement which would allow Sling TV subscribers... Read more...
Cable companies should take note; the cord-cutting revolution has begun in earnest. Somewhat ironically, it's a satellite TV provider that's disrupting the landscape. Sling TV's base package is $20 per month and includes ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, Foot Network, HGTV, Disney Channel, TNT, El Rey Network, Travel Channel, TBS, Maker, Adult Swim, CNN, IFC, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, and Golovision. Four optional... Read more...
Cord cutters rejoice! AMC is now available on Dish Network’s $20 per month Sling TV service. In addition to AMC, IFC also comes to Sling TV’s $20 “Core” package starting today. With the rise of online services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and host of others, consumers looking to “cut the cord” have plenty of options to select. However, ditching entrenched series like cable and satellite often means giving up such “luxuries” as network television broadcasts (ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.) and live sports channels like ESPN. Plugging rabbit ears into your HDTV can mostly solve the former, but the latter is a bit more troublesome. Dish Network is hoping to come to the rescue with its new Sling TV service that was announced last month and was available via an invite-only system... Read more...
