Dell has made little to no effort to keep their "Streak" Tablet a secret, but when everyone else is doing a tablet, we sort of understand the need to make it public knowledge. After months and months of leaks and rumors, Dell is finally putting all of that conjecture behind them and getting official with the 5" Streak, which is set to launch early next month in the UK exclusively on O2. Pricing plans for the device haven't been made public, but one thing that's certainly unique about the Streak compared to other tablets is this unit's ability to act as a mobile phone. It will almost certainly be the largest "phone" you've ever seen beside someone's head, but with a 5" display, it will also be... Read more...
Many are familiar with Google's "don't be evil" philosophy of serving the best interests of it users and maintaining a moral-guided internal code of conduct. But not as many might be aware that Google often tries to go beyond just not doing evil, by activey trying to do good deeds. This is evident with Google's philanthropic endeavors and its recent Project10100 worldwide call to arms for the betterment of humanity in areas such as energy, the environment, and health. Google's latest effort to make a difference is not quite as big as the aforementioned projects, but as they say, every little bit counts.  Click the above image to see a larger-sized image. And it is exactly the little... O2 has finally be confirmed as the U.K. carrier for Apple's iPhone, but they paid dearly for the privilege. The UK's largest mobile operator came from behind at the last minute to seal an agreement with Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, to market the iPhone in the UK, but one other operator described the deal as "madly money-losing". O2 is understood to have agreed a margin on the retail price - to be confirmed tomorrow - but will return to Apple as much as 40% of any revenues it makes from customers' use of the device. Unlike other phones, the carriers are actually being raked over the coals in their rush to grab the rights to this device,... Read more...
Contracts with the carriers and Apple were signed in the last few days.  Of particular interest, however, is that the contract requires the carriers to give Apple 10% of iPhone revenues derived from phone and data calls.  This is something the carriers have strongly resisted in the past, and shows just how much they wanted the latest must-have Apple gadget. The contracts with T-Mobile of Germany, Orange of France and O{2 }in the UK were signed in recent days, according to these sources. T-Mobile, Orange and O2 declined to comment. "These are not negotiations among equals. Apple clearly had the upper hand," one industry expert told FT Deutschland. The deals mark... Read more...
Chris Suellentrop examines gameplay habits on the powerful Xbox 360, and determines many people use high-powered consoles for low-powered, last generation fun. Most casual gamers don't even realize they're gamers. The demographic includes the secretary who plays computer mahjong during her lunch break, the lawyer who zones out with Minesweeper at the end of her long day, and the grandfather who bought a $20 Pac-Man joystick to plug into his TV. These gamers probably don't know it, but the high-horsepower Xbox 360 is filled with mesmerizing, low-fi delights. The Xbox Live Arcade, a branch of the console's superlative online service, includes... Read more...

Hey folks, the news is moving a bit slow, but it's still moving. AMD Zone has updated their Quake 4 benchmarks to include some numbers using two Radeon X850XT PE cards(Crossfire). On a more depressing note, Baseball season is now over, ended by a 4 game sweep of the Houston Astros by the Chicago White Sox. Two Sox in two years. It's the most generic thing to say, but I'll say it... there's always next year. Well folks, I'm out. Goodnight! As Intel's Alderwood and Grantsdale chipsets have brought a whole new platform of technology to the P4, OEMs are now in full swing, bringing their own flavors to the mix.  With support for Intel's new LGA775 processors, DDR and DDR2 and PCI-Express, the playing field has certainly changed.  Granted, while upgrading will require a larger investment, the results can be worth it in the end, especially if you are migrating from a generation or two behind this current Intel architecture. Recently, we've seen a number of offerings come to market based on the 915G/P chipset.  While each company offers its own combination of features, only a few have truly stood out from the rest. Anyone up for some late night news? For the insomniac in you, we have reviews for products from Thermaltake, MSI, RaidMax, and Altec Lansing. I'd like to chat more, but as my vision becomes a little blurrier, I realize I probably should get some sleep, so good night :) Thermaltake Fanless 103 @ Phoronix "Large heatsinks are quite a hit these days, and the Fanless 103 from Thermaltake is no exception. In fact, it's so big that we just had to nickname it "Big Blue." The largest question we have for Big Blue is: can it in fact take the pressure that other heatsinks with fans can handle, or will it slip into the background to be slowly forgotten like the real Big Blue?" MSI 915P... Read more...
