Nintendo needs another hardware success like the original Wii console and it's hoping its forthcoming NX console will fit the bill. Until it releases in March of next year, all we can do is speculate based on what little information Nintendo is willing to share at this point and the many rumors and supposedly leaked tidbits that find their way to the web. One of the rumors is that the NX's graphics performance will fall somewhere in between Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. That's according to what "sources close to Nintendo" have told MCV about the NX. Apparently Nintendo is going after an audience that sits somewhere between smartphone gamers and gaming enthusiasts who currently... Read more...
Nintendo is hoping to make a splash in the game console market with its forthcoming NX system, one that can generate the kind of the reception the original Wii did rather than the Wii U, but just how big of a splash is anyone's guess at this point. We're still trying to figure out what "brand-new concept" it will bring to the table, which apparently won't include virtual reality technology. It's a little surprising that Nintendo isn't more interested in VR, considering how many view it as the next big thing in gaming. There's an eager market out there, and that would especially be true if Nintendo could somehow undercut the competition in price while still delivering an immersive experience.... Read more...
Don't expect Nintendo's next generation game console codenamed NX to trump upgraded game systems from Microsoft or Sony. That's our takeaway from comments made by Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Aime, who downplayed the importance of "teraflops" and "horsepower" in a response to a question about how the NX will compare to Microsoft's Project Scorpio and Sony's PS4 Neo."For us, it's not about specs, it's not about teraflops, it's not about the horsepower of a particular system," Fils-Aime told Bloomberg in an interview. "For us, it's about the content. Nintendo is a content focused company, we create content that makes people smile. So for us we're focused on bringing our best entertainment... Read more...
Nintendo's been remarkably tight lipped about its next generation NX game console, speaking up about it on occasion only to remind people it is in fact coming, and to throw cold water on rumors. Otherwise it's been almost all speculation up to this point, save for some supposedly inside information saying it will run on NVIDIA hardware. Short and to the point, Nintendo insider Emily Rogers (Arcade Girl) told NeoGAF's NateDrake, "NVIDIA is involved with Nintendo's future hardware." She didn't say to what extent, but the easy assumption is that NVIDIA will power the NX's graphics, which could be a big win for the company if it turns out to be a popular console. "Had a lengthy chat with Emily today,... Read more...
Nintendo's been working on a mysterious new game console codenamed NX, one that's been the topic of various speculation and rumors over the past year. As if any additional intrigue was needed, Nintendo revealed in its quarter financial report it will launch next year and that it will be a "brand-new concept." Let the guessing games continue. "For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally," Nintendo stated in a blurb that was buried on page three of its quarterly financial report. Later on in the report, Nintendo added that it's "not disclosing specific information... Read more...
Wading through the Internet is a little similar to the movie Inception, in that you never truly know what's real. In case anyone needed reminding of that, what were purported to be leaked photos of an oval shaped controller for Nintendo's forthcoming NX console turned out to be fake. That's probably a good thing because the reaction to the controller design wasn't all that positive. So what happened? Well, there were actually two instances of the fancy pants controller showing up online, both modeled after Nintendo's patent filing, which itself is real. But the photos of the supposed prototypes were not. The first of those appeared on reddit by "Idriss2Dev," a new member to the site who drew... Read more...
There's quite a bit of mystery and intrigue surrounding Nintendo's forthcoming NX console. It's still anyone's guess what the darn thing will be like, though Nintendo may have at least hinted at the console's controller design when it filed for a patent (PDF) late last year. Interestingly enough, leaked photos purporting to show the NX controller look very similar to the sketches in Nintendo's patent filing.A user on reddit created a post titled "NX controller pictures," which contained a link to two photos of an oval shaped device on Imgur. Perhaps what's most surprising about the leaked photos, especially if they turn out to be legit, is that they're high quality shots. More often than not,... Read more...
Nintendo hasn't been real forthcoming with details about its next-generation console codenamed "NX," but in lieu of official information, there's been plenty of rumors and speculation. One of the latest bit of speculative news to hit the web is that Nintendo is on target to launch its NX handheld by the end of the year. That assumption is based on a flat-panel shipment report by market research firm IHS. The report specifically calls out Nintendo's forthcoming console as a reason why it expects flat-panel shipments to see a bit of an uptick in shipments this year."We expect a small recover in shipments of flat-panel displays for game devices because of Nintendo's new game hardware expected to... Just as quickly as we were warming to the idea of Nintendo’s next generation gaming console running the Android operating system, our hopes have now been dashed. The denial came swiftly, with a Nintendo spokesman stating, “There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX.” That’s about as strong as a denial as you would ever here from a Nintendo. The company usually doesn’t take the time to respond to such rumors (just like Apple). But the original Japanese-language report that its next generation console would join forces with Google’s dominant mobile operating system was apparently enough to garner a "That's all I can stands,I can't stands no more" response... We've heard rumors that Nintendo is working on new gaming hardware, and during a recent press conference, company president and CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed the new platform, though he stopped short of saying whether it will be a living room console or a handheld gaming system. The codename for the platform is "NX." It's not clear if Iwata intended all along to confirm that work has begun on NX, as the purpose of the press conference was to explain why Nintendo has decided to enter the smartphone gaming market through a partnership with DeNA, a player in the smartphone gaming space. He then went on to announce the NX to put to rest any fears that Nintendo might stop building game consoles. Image... Read more...
