Anyone who grew up playing adventure games is likely to recognize the name Al Lowe. A former employee of Sierra (employee number 20, as it were), he created Leisure Suit Larry and coded several other games, including The Black Cauldron. Now decades later, he's selling some of the original source code from his days at Sierra. For several years, Lowe designed, wrote, and programmed music, games, and various other things (like utilities) for Sierra Entertainment, which was a major force in the PC gaming landscape in the 1980s and early 1990s. By the time Lowe left the company, Sierra had grown to around 1,200 employees, he recalls, with several iconic franchises under its belt—Leisure Suit... Read more...
In the latest Kickstarter update sent out by Replay Games to backers of Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, it was revealed that Larry creator Al Lowe will be participating in another Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Saturday, July 6th (that's today!) at 1:00 PM Eastern (10:00 AM Pacific for you folks living on the west coast). He'll discuss the making of Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded as well as the whole Kickstarter experience. "I'm thrilled that so many fans remembered and loved my Leisure Suit Larry games after all these years (and a couple of failed games by others). It's great: together they will enable us to corrupt a whole new generation of gamers!," Al Lowe told HotHardware in an email. The remade Larry game will feature... Read more...
The prevailing wisdom is that adventure games are dead, and maybe they really are, or perhaps there just hasn't been anything to get excited about in a long, long time. Like a new Leisure Suit Larry game. You're probably thinking, "Been there, tried that, and the new Larry games stink," a fair assessment, but it's also worth mentioning that Larry creator Al Lowe and his original team of programmers and writers were in no way involved with those titles. However, they are involved with a Leisure Suit Larry remake that will sport brand new graphics and updated humor, provided they can raise enough funds. In just one week, Al Lowe and company have raised nearly half the requested $500,000 funds on... Read more...
