Apple has just released Smart Battery Cases for its 2018 lineup of smartphones, which include the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. The cases are available in either white or black finishes and aren't exactly aesthetically pleasing with a rather large "hump" on the back that houses the battery. Existence of the cases was first leaked in early December. The new Smart Battery Case will cost you $129 regardless of which iPhone model you have. The Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XR will give you a maximum of 37 hours talk, 20 hours internet, and 20 hours of video. The iPhone XS paired with its Smart Battery Case will return figures of 33 hours, 21 hours, and 25 hours... Read more...
You can only push prices so far before customers start turning away from your products. That seems to be the case with Apple's 2018 lineup of iPhones, which are the most expensive ever introduced for customers. A new report indicates that many Chinese retailers have taken the uncommon step of slashing the prices of relatively new iPhones in order to win the attention of customers. According to Reuters, popular Chinese retailers like Suning and JD.com are discounting models like the iPhone XR by as much as $118 off its starting price. In total, six retailers have instituted dramatic price cuts in order to spur iPhones sales according to the news organization.  At this point it's not... Read more...
If you're firmly entrenched in the Apple camp and just so happen to be part of the T-Mobile family, the third-place wireless carrier is currently running an offer that will get you up to $750 off the price of a new smartphone. Although T-Mobile hasn't announced an end-date for the promotion, it's likely not going to last too far into the new year. As is currently stands, you can get either the iPhone 8 or the iPhone XR for free with the current promo. With more expensive phones like the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, you'll get a maximum of $750 off the purchase price. For example, you can get an iPhone XS for $999 minus $750 in monthly bill credits bringing your... Read more...
Have consumers finally had enough of Apple's efforts to jack iPhone pricing into the stratosphere? There are numerous warning signs suggesting that this is the case. However, Apple's decision to not breakdown sales numbers for iPhones, Macs and iPads in its future earnings reports could obfuscate any real analysis of sales data. Apple's flagship iPhone prices have been on the rise for years, but things took a turn towards the extreme with 2017's launch of the iPhone X. The device, with its notched display and first-generation Face ID system, launched with a starting price of $999. Despite analysts and pundits balking at the high price tag, consumers were seemingly unfazed, propelling the iPhone... Read more...
Apple continues to claim that the iPhone is selling well despite reports to the contrary. Reports have been particularly critical of sales numbers for the iPhone XR, something that Apple refuted last month when it claimed that the iPhone XR was its best selling model. Apple has also been hit with iPhone sales bans by Qualcomm recently in Germany and China. Now, analyst Jun Zhang from Rosenblatt has issued an investor note predicting that Apple will cut iPhone production. According to Zhang, production could be cut by another 4 million units during the March quarter of 2019. Zhang writes that Apple is facing challenges, particularly in China, relating to the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.... Read more...
Apple and Qualcomm aren't on friendly terms right now considering that the two firms are currently embroiled in a long-running legal battle over patents and royalties. Qualcomm claims that Apple owes billions in royalty payments, while Apple maintains that its devices don't infringe on Qualcomm patents. Qualcomm was granted a sales ban on some older iPhone models in China and is now trying to add the iPhone XR and iPhone XS to the sales ban. Any possibility of having its new hotness banned in China has Apple scrambling to ready a software update that completely bypass the Qualcomm patents in question. Apple has confirmed that it will be pushing out software updates starting next week with... Read more...
The stakes in the ongoing legal drama between Apple and Qualcomm are getting higher. Earlier this week, a Chinese court sided with Qualcomm, imposing an import and sales ban on Apple products ranging from the iPhone 6s/iPhone 6s Plus on through to the iPhone X. The basis for the preliminary injunction was that Apple infringed upon two Qualcomm patents. Qualcomm is now going for the throat, and is asking Chinese courts to ban the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. These represent Apple's most recent iPhones, and according to Apple's own figures, the iPhone XR is currently the company's best-selling smartphone.  Qualcomm is looking to use the same two patents... Way back in late 2015, Apple released its first Smart Battery Case intended for use on the iPhone 6s. Priced at $99, the device boosted overall runtimes for the device to 25 hours, but was widely mocked for its ghastly battery "hump" which looked totally out of place with absolutely no attention paid to aesthetics. Things didn't improve with the Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 7. Now it looks as though Apple is ready to take another stab at the accessory three years after it launched the original. Guilherme Rambo did some digging into watchOS 5.1.2 and found a fresh icon that depicts a new Smart Battery Case. This time around, as you can see by the pill-shaped cutout for... Read more...
There have been numerous reports of lower-than-expected iPhone sales since the launch of the latest models, and it's even been said that Apple recently cut its iPhone XR orders with suppliers amid tepid demand. Is that really the case, though? According to Apple, everything is fine and dandy, and the iPhone XR is actually the best selling new iPhone of the bunch. As the previous story goes, Apple told three separate iPhone XR suppliers to either reduce expectations for orders, or to eliminate manufacturing lines for the handset. It also reportedly told Foxconn and Pegatron, it's two main suppliers, to halt plans for any additional iPhone XR production lines. Then later, Apple reportedly cut iPhone... Read more...
Japanese Apple fans will soon be able to get the iPhone XR at a discounted price; new NTT DOCOMO customers will be able to save roughly $100 over the life of their plan. The price reduction is part of Apple’s rumored plan to cut back on 2018 iPhone model production. Previously, the iPhone XR 64GB with a 24-month contract would have cost NTT DOCOMO customers ¥36,000 JPY (over $315 USD). Now the device will ring in at ¥24,000 (roughly $211), not including mandatory contract fees. Many new NTT DOCOMO customers will be able to snag an entire iPhone XR 64GB contract package for ¥7000 yen ($62) per month. NTT DOCOMO is one of the biggest mobile carriers in Japan and its serves more... Read more...
Might it be possible that consumers are starting to suffer from iPhone fatigue? Well, anything is possible, as Kevin Garnett excitedly proclaimed after helping the Boston Celtics take home its 17th NBA championship, only Apple is far less likely to be as enthusiastic about an apparent slowdown in iPhone sales. It was reported two weeks ago that Apple had cut back on iPhone XR orders amid tepid demand. According to that report, Apple told three separate iPhone XR suppliers to either reduce expectations for orders, or to eliminate manufacturing lines for the device. In addition, Apple reportedly told Foxconn and Pegatron, its two main suppliers, to halt plans for any additional iPhone XR production... Read more...
This Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, and with all the Black Friday deals that we have seen, it's been curious that none of the smartphone deals have offered service on T-Mobile. Sam's Club had a Samsung Early Access event where smartphones were on significant discount, but you had to activate on Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. Target and Best Buy had some deals on various iPhone models, but again T-Mobile wasn't offered as a carrier with any of those specials. T-Mobile has now tossed out its own Black Friday deals, and one of them is offering an iPhone XR at no cost. That particular deal has a caveat with users wanting to partake needing to activate two lines of service and trade... Read more...

It should be noted that this is the first time that Amazon has ever sold [new] iPhones and iPads directly to customers, although the retailer has previously sold Mac computers. iPhones and iPads that have been available for sale in the past have either been... When Apple announced three different iPhone models back in September, the cheapest of the trio was the iPhone XR. That device was announced alongside the iPhone XS and XS Max, but didn't ship until late October. More recently a teardown of the iPhone XR found that the smartphone uses hybrid iPhone 8 and iPhone XS internals offering iPhone XS levels of performance for less money and with reportedly better battery life. Despite being cheaper than the XS, the iPhone XR is a $749 "entry-level" smartphone, and early reports allege that it isn't selling well. A new report claims that Apple has told three separate iPhone XR suppliers to either reduce expectations for orders or to eliminate manufacturing... Read more...
