But things look a bit different if the machine is loaded with innards from a different manufacturer...namely, VIA. The unheard of Shenzhen Zaiben Technology Company, likely a low-rate Chinese OEM, has just introduced a new "clamshell PC" dubbed the F88, which looks to be one of the most multimedia-friendly netbooks to date. Boasting a 10" display with a common 1024x600 resolution, the machine also features a 1.6GHz VIA Nano processor, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, 1GB of memory, and a 1.3MP webcam. The real kicker is the VIA VX855... Read more...

Early adopters get to sample new products and technologies long before everybody else. But the price they pay for the opportunity and the bragging rights is often spending a lot more money than if they had only waited longer, potentially problematic hardware that hasn't had all the bugs worked out yet, and (in a worst-case-scenario) sometimes investing in a technology that has a very short shelf life. With the possible exception of buggy hardware, this is exactly what happened to those who jumped onto the high-definition (HD) movie disc bandwagon and invested in HD-DVD players and titles. HD-DVD and Blu-ray technologies both hit the market around the same time (technically, HD-DVD launched first)... Read more...

You're probably pretty proud of that 24" LCD that you use to play the hottest titles at 1080p or above, but what if we told you those same games (and those same resolutions) could be seen on a 150" screen -- and you wouldn't even need a home theater space to make it happen? Now that we have your attention, take a close look at the coffin-like box below. That, believe it or not, is a projector.Just as netbook-like computing power was only possible by linking vacuum tubes and power cables in a warehouse, this is likely the first of many sure-to-be-smaller versions of Sanyo's short-range 1080p beamer.
