With the performance of more mainstream cards on the rise, monitor prices on a downward slide, and support for 5x1 Eyefinity available (sort of), we decided to see what a pair of Radeon HD 6870 cards running in CrossFire mode could do with a quintet of screen out in front. The cleanest way to pull off a 5x1 Eyefinity configuration, without... Read more...
Way back in September of ’09, AMD launched the Radeon HD 5800 series, and along with it officially unveiled its Eyefinity multi-display technology, which now pervades all Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 series cards in one form or another. Leading up to the release of the 5800 series, AMD tried to keep Eyefinity a close guarded secret, so its... Read more...
It's been 10 years since Microsoft and Nvidia colaborated on a console development project, but a clause in the agreement between the two companies could still have ramifications for the GPU manufacturer. The company's recent FY 2011 report with the SEC states: On March 5, 2000, we entered into an agreement... Read more...
Asetek and cooling, two names that seem to always go together. Now, you can add a third: PNY. That company has teamed up with Asetek in order to "revolutionize" graphics card liquid cooling, with the goal to deliver liquid-cooled, high-end graphics cards that far outperform equivalent air cooled models graphically, thermally and acoustically.... You know the drill by now: NVIDIA releases a new GPU, and pre-fab PC makers jump at the chance to upgrade their machines with the latest and greatest. This week, the GTX 560M was revealed for notebooks, and sure enough, it looks as if Origin PC was working in conjunction with NVIDIA. The reason? Because Origin has just made the 560M available... NVIDIA just took the wraps off of a couple of new mobile GPUs at Computex and announced a slew of notebooks designs that will feature the new chips. The new GeForce GTX 560M and GT 520MX will be arriving very soon, in notebooks from Asus, Alienware, Clevo, Toshiba, MSI, and Samsung, among others. The GeForce GT 520MX... Read more...
Embedded systems may not be the sexiest to talk about, but they're becoming increasingly powerful (and increasingly important). AMD has just announced the immediate availability of two new AMD Embedded G-Series APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) with thermal design power (TDP) ratings of 5.5 and 6.4 watts, up to a 39 percent power savings... NVIDIA continues to flesh out their DirectX 11 GPU line-up, this time with a relatively affordable offering that drops in right between the GeForce GTX 560 Ti and GeForce GTX 550. The aptly named GeForce GTX 560 (sans Ti) launching today is essentially a replacement for the popular GeForce GTX 460 1GB. It’s outfitted with a similar number... Read more...

For those of you rocking a water cooled rig, the LCS HD6990 will slide right in and comes with both 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch barbs with captured o-rings to prevent leakage. As... Read more...
When we published our analysis of JPR's Q1 2011 GPU market share yesterday, we noted that Nvidia's share of the entire market had dropped significantly due to declining sales in their integrated graphics business. We also discussed how the rise of 'Fusion' hardware from both AMD and Intel will inevitably squeeze NV's share of the lower-end... Read more...
Jon Peddie Research has released its Q1 2011 estimates, and the figures don't favor Nvidia. The research firm tracked strong gains for Intel and AMD (in terms of volume). AMD's total share of the GPU market rose to 24.8 percent, up from 21.5 percent a year ago (a gain of 24.8 percent total).  Intel came in at 54.4 percent, 9.7 percent... Read more...
Thunderbolts aren't reserved for the midnight sky and HTC's smartphone lineup anymore. Apple has turned Thunderbolt into somewhat of a household name already overnight, and while the newest iMac machines are hogging the spotlight this week, the Thunderbolt-equipped MacBook Pro machines that shipped earlier in the year... It happens every single time. AMD or NVIDIA reveals a new GPU, and then OEMs race to get cards out based on those new chipsets. MSI is among that group, and they've just launched a new group of graphics cards based on AMD's HD6700. The R6770-MD1GD5, R6750-MD1GD5 and R6750-MD512D5 are the new guys, and all of them support the latest version... Read more...
