As we originally posted yesterday, Comcast today confirmed that it has abandoned its bid to acquire rival Time Warner Cable for $45 billion. The deal, which was originally announced in February 2014, was questionable at best, but came under more scrutiny in recent weeks.
The company issued a brief statement this...

From the moment the proposed $45 billion Comcast-Time Warner Cable (TWC) merger was announced over a year ago, many consumers were understandably worried about what that would mean for competition in the broadband and TV markets, not mention how it would affect their bills each month. Add that in with the fact that...

If Comcast and Time Warner Cable have a Plan B, they may want to consider implementing it. Just as was expected would happen, the Federal Communication Commission's staff reportedly recommended what's called a "hearing designation order" to determine if the proposed $42.5 billion Comcast-TWC merger is within the best...

The opposition to the $45 billion Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger is growing. Late last week, we reported that the Department of Justice (DOJ) antitrust division is damn near close to recommending that the deal be nuked. The DOJ’s recommendations could ultimately lead to a lawsuit aimed at stopping the deal in its...

It’s funny how a little bit of competition will force a company to wake up realize that its customers have compelling alternative services to consider. Comcast has spent the past year extolling the benefits of its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable, but many in the tech industry and plenty of customers aren’t so certain that a merger is the right way to go. Google Fiber (and to perhaps an even greater extent, municipal broadband) has existing players in the broadband market scrambling to step up their game. Earlier this year, Google announced that it would bring its 1 Gbps Google Fiber Internet service to the Charlotte, NC area.
Now, Time Warner Cable (TWC) is...

Overly Paranoid Rob Lowe, Crazy Hairy Rob Lowe, Super Creepy Rob Lowe... thanks in no small part to complaints made by Comcast to the National Advertising Division (NAD), these most unwelcome guests who came into many of our homes via television throughout the 2014-15 NFL season are mostly likely being shown the door...

If you have an opinion that many would deem illogical, what do you do? You go find other people who think just as illogically, of course. Power in numbers, as they say. That can go for a sibling battling with another sibling over who took the last of the cupcakes just as well as it can for mega corporations like...

Google and AT&T have been slowly rolling 1Gbps fiber Internet services across the United States. Google struck the first blow when it launched Google Fiber in Kansas City, Kansas, and AT&T has followed suit as Google Fiber’s shadow in many markets (and in markets where Google is not already available, AT&T has seen...

Comcast is one of only two companies (EA being the other) to be voted by readers of The Consumerist as the "Worst Company in America" on multiple occasions. It's fair to say the cable giant has an ongoing image problem, and Comcast isn't helping itself any by continuing to tick off subscribers, this time by preventing them from accessing HBO

Comcast is not exactly a well-liked company in the United States, and that’s putting it nicely. At present, Google and AT&T are the two companies making the most noise about gigabit Internet service for consumers. It's high time other ISPs jump on board as well, don't you think? If you agree, you'll be happy to know that Comcast and Liberty Global (a major ISP in Europe) are two other Internet companies with gigabit service on the roadmap.

Few things are as annoying as waiting for a cable technician to arrive. You know the drill -- you call customer service to schedule an appointment and the person on the other end of the line says a technician will arrive on Thursday sometime between 7:00 AM and the year 2020. Well, there goes your day, right? Perhaps...

Comcast is one of two companies to have earned Consumerist's "Worst Company in America" title on more than one occasion (once in 2010 and again this year, 2014), and it looks like the company is lobbying for a third title. That is, unless there's another explanation as to how the cable giant can claim (seemingly with...
