If you've been searching high and low for a PC enclosure lately, you've probably been overwhelmed by the options. There are simply hundreds upon hundreds of them, and it's often tough to discern which is actually ideal for your needs. Then there's style and price, which always have to be taken into consideration. Fractal Design has impressed us recently with their latest case designs, and the new Core series is growing by one with the launch of the Core 3000. This mid-tower offers plenty of space and plenty of cooling options. You can easily fit seven fans in here, and the upper HDD cage is removable and rotatable. There's room for six 3.5" HDDs, tons of USB 2.0 ports, seven expansion slots and... Read more...
The homebuilt PC business is still booming, and if you're in the market to buy up parts and construct your own rig, there's hardly a more important piece to the puzzle than the enclosure. Antec has been making PC cases for years now, and this week the company is celebrating their 25th year in the business with the introduction of even more new gear. The next-generation of the P183, P193, Nine Hundred Two and Twelve Hundred models were launched, expanding the 'Performance One' and 'Gaming Case' series. The new P183 V3, P193 V3, Nine Hundred Two V3 and Twelve Hundred V3 models offer upgrade potential over the originals, with each of these using USB 3.0 on the front-panel, an internal 2.5" SSD drive... Fractal Design is a relatively new name in the expansive PC case business, and while it's definitely tough to cut through in this saturated market, this particular company seems to be doing a great job of doing just that. Their designs are refreshing, unique and intelligent, and much like the Define case that was introduced at the start of this year, the company's new Arc series is also classily styled and great for those building out a smaller rig. It's a Micro ATX case that provides loads of room for cooling options (up to 7 total fans), top/front panels that are removable, a sleek black exterior, all-white expansion bays and HDD trays, and as with the Define, these trays are also outfitted... Here's a couple of things that go well together: a USB gaming headset, and a new mid-tower case. It's an interesting combination to be perfectly honest, but it's a pair of new gadgets that Corsair is introducing this week. The Company's HS1A USB Headset falls into their Gaming Audio Series, while there's a new white version of the Graphite Series 600T mid-tower case. The new HS1A is similar to the older HS1, but adds an analog version for gamers who'd rather use their own sound cards. You'll still get sizable earcups, 50mm drivers, memory foam earpads and 3.5mm stereo plugs. There's even an inline volume remote and a microphone mute button. As for the case? It's a special edition one, with a... Read more...
Come to think of it, it has been quite some time since we have seen a PC enclosure that truly blew us away. Thermaltake's Level 10 will always hold a special place in our hearts, but outside of that, the custom enclosure market has been a little more quiet than usual. Thankfully, Fractal Designs is kicking the new year off with a bang. The new Define Mini is a smaller version of the Define R2/R3 case. This is a Micro-ATX version, meant to satisfy the needs of PC builders with minimal space to give up. It's also focused on keeping noise to a minimum, so it may be better suited as an HTPC than a gaming rig. There's a patent pending feature that stands out: ModuVent. This allows you to choose whether... Read more...
Apple's iPhone has grown into something far more robust than just a smartphone. Thanks to the blossoming App Store, nearly anything is possible with it now. Using it as a remote control has been a concept embraced since the early days of the app store, even by Apple themselves. But to really control an entire home cinema setup, you need external hardware that can handle Infrared. Surc is that hardware. The company's newly announced case, which will be compatible with the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, has an embedded IR sensor in it. Once the case is on your iPhone, and you have the Surc app downloaded, you can use the screen to control your DVD player, TV, stereo, etc. Any home component that response... Read more...

LaCie is no stranger to making products that can take a beating. Not only are the company's drives stylish, some of them are about as rugged as they come. But now LaCie is creating something that lets you choose what's inside. The Tank, which definitely has a simple name, has a pretty simple purpose as well. It's designed as a rugged, rain-proof case that can hold anything from a 2.5" hard drive to a Nintendo DSi. The unit ships with internal padding that can be rearranged based on what you're trying to protect, and it's IP-63 certified to protect against dust and pouring rain. There's also military-grade shock and drop protection, and a 1-year warranty. Think of it as a safe deposit box that... Read more...
Your notebook probably has one. Your monitor might, and your desktop might as well. We're referring to a lock slot, and if you work in a corporate environment, it's almost a safe bet that your equipment is all locked down by these common locks and cables. But what about tablets? They're so thin and so small, and that makes them the perfect (but unfortunate) target for theft. But if you're really, sincerely worried about that now, there's an answer. The new iPad Lock is the first of its kind. It's a case, with a built-in locking port on the side. It's a hard, clear plastic case with a built-in lock slot. Once the case and cable are locked together, thieves can't detach the case without damaging... Read more...
There aren't too many people who own iPhone 4 handsets and yet still have no case; Apple was handing them out for free for a couple of months, after all. But if you need something different, or just a case that does a little more than your average case, Mophie has something of the sort. The company has just introduced the juice pack plus, their 2nd-generation iPhone 4 juice pack product and the largest to date in terms of battery capacity. It's a sleek and slender case, looking a lot like an Apple iPhone Bumper with a backplate. It has a 2,000 mAh battery capacity, which trumps all other juice packs to date. In keeping with mophie’s award-winning juice pack design, the juice pack plus is... Read more...
The Etch A Sketch has gone down, and will always reside, in the Toy Hall of Fame. At least in our minds. It's a famed product that still elates children today, and it's one that just never seems to age. No matter how far technology advances, there's just something magical about turning two wheels to make lines, then shaking it to erase and start over. It's nearly as advanced as multi-touch, in a very strange sort of way. And now, Etch A Sketch is going modern. This item here is the officially licensed Etch A Sketch iPhone case. This isn't a knockoff, this is the real deal. This is the official Etch A Sketch iPhone case, designed to work with the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. There's even... Read more...

Imagine if the iPad were a hybrid netbook / tablet rather than a tablet alone. Imagine if the iPad shipped with a keyboard. Imagine if the iPad could shift into a netbook of sorts with just the turn of a case? It's not likely that Apple will ever ship an iPad like that, but Solid Line Products has the next best alternative. The company has just released their new all-in-one leather case / Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad, and it will be shipping next week. Most iPad users probably already own a case, making the idea of buying another a tough one. But if you haven't yet, and you wish your iPad had a physical keyboard, this one is the one to get. It's a Bluetooth 2.0 silicone keyboard that's built... Read more...
A few months back, Apple held an emergency press event in California to address the reception issues that users and critics were howling about. Aside from pointing out that other phones suffered from similar issues when held in certain ways, the company offered free cases and bumpers to any customer that applied for one. They noted that the offer run until the end of September, after which they would evaluate the situation and see if they should extend it. They won't. That's the news straight from Apple, who have apparently decided that September 30th will definitely be the last day that consumers can apply for a free-of-charge case or bumper. In fact, the company admitted that the antenna problem... Read more...
No matter what Apple says about improved battery life on the iPhone 4, there will always be those running out of power. Since there is no way to swap batteries on any iPhone, all these cases or sleeves have arisen for past models to allow for increased power, and here's one of the first for the iPhone 4: the MiLi Power Spring 4. The MiLi Power Spring 4 claims to be both the thinnest and first external battery for the iPhone 4. Of course, first is debatable, because even at Amazon.com you can find other external battery cases. However, MiLi is well-known for prior products, so that's a plus, in its case. The PowerSpring 4 has a 1600 mAh capacity (Amazon.com says 1200 in its product title, but... Read more...

Thermaltake is really known for two things: cases, and the Level 10. The Level 10 really put the company on the map this year, as it's easily the most incredible, towering PC chassis to be sold at large to the adoring public. But not every person is interested in a giant, $500+ case. So Thermaltake is continuing to innovate, bringing out new options for those who haven't seen a reason to upgrade their enclosure in a decade. The company's newest mid-tower is a real winner: the V9 BlacX Edition. It's the world's first mid-tower chassis to have an integrated dual-bay docking station right in the front, which allows for easy swapping of 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives. If you've ever had a spare HDD... Read more...
When we sat down to review Corsair's acclaimed 700D and 800D chassis, we couldn't help reflecting on how much the PC case market has evolved over the last decade. Ten years ago, when we were cutting our teeth on CPUs with code names like Coppermine and Thunderbird, enthusiast enclosures were few and far between. In a market that's now literally teeming with options from a variety of established manufacturers, however, how do Corsair's brushed-metal beauties measure up? Let's find out... With the exception of Lian-Li, which was building $200+ all-aluminum nerd artwork even back then, the majority of the companies providing cases to the DIY market were busy churning out beige boxes with features that included: Complimentary Band-Aids 1x 80mm 6000 RPM rear fan with an acoustic profile carefully modeled after a Boeing 727 The option to install a front-mounted case fan... If it's flashy, big, colorful and can hold everything you need in a great PC, it's probably made by Lian Li. The company that consistently delivers eye-popping PC enclosures has struck once again, this time with a mid-tower that you won't need a forklift and a 10-foot door in order to get into your gaming lair. The new PC-8FI is still a dazzler, and as usual, Lian Li's charging you enough that you never forget that "love at first sight" moment. Specifications include twin intake 120mm fans (and 1 exhaust), a single 140mm fan hole for another fan, 7+1 PCI slots, up to 7 3.5" hard drives mounts, USB 3.0 support and colors including "spider-edition red," black or silver. The dimensions of the PC-8FI... Read more...
Leave it to Lian Li to create a PC enclosure that you want so badly, but your wallet simply can't stand the sight of. The company's latest beast is the new TYR PC-X2000F, which is described as being an HTPC/Gaming chassis. We're not quite sure what kind of HTPC is this huge, but maybe if your entire downstairs is a cinema, this would fly. The new, all-black case is stunning, with room for Extended ATX, ATX, and Micro-ATX motherboards. There are four tool-less ODD bays, seven tool-less HDD mounting arcs, a fan control switch, four USB 3.0 ports, one eSATA port, three 140mm fans on the front and two 140mm fans at the rear. Needless to say, there's plenty of room for Blu-ray drives (or an even an... Read more...
