It’s been a while since our last case roundup--a long while, actually--so it’s high time we did another. We take a look at a slew of (mostly) mid tower cases on the following pages, including the Antec Eleven Hundred, the Corsair Carbide 400R and 500R, the NZXT Source 220, and Thermaltake Chaser MK-I, each designed for a slightly different consumer. Every case in this roundup has strengths, weaknesses, and features that the others may not have, although each also has its own value proposition. If a case is flashy and feature-laden, in general, it will come with a higher price tag as well. If it’s more stripped-down, it'll generally costs less. If a case is targeted as an attention... This isn't just a new year for Cooler Master, 2012 just happens to represent the company's 20th year of service. What better way to celebrate the occasion than to release a new chassis? Honestly, we can think of several, but none of them productive (and some aren't even legal), so kudos to Cooler Master for staying out of trouble and kicking off 2012 with the introduction of the Cosmos II, a so-called "Ultra Tower." What's an Ultra Tower? In Cooler Master's words, it's "a benchmark for all enclosures that exist and all that follow." Funny marketing aside, the Cosmos II is a neat looking case with some high end features. It has two handles on the top, so if you throw out your back lugging your... Read more...
You know a computer case means business when it warrants naming an entire PC line after it, and that's what you have with Maingear's SHIFT chassis. Designed in conjunction with Silverstone, the SHIFT computer case is the centerpiece of not one, but two full blown system configurations featured at Maingear, including the "The SHIFT" (for consumers/enthusiasts) and "The Quantum SHIFT" (workstation). But what if you're not in the market for a brand new system and just want the case? Too bad, so sad, up until now. Maingear tells us there's been so much interest in the standalone chassis that they've decided to offer a limited run of SHIFT computer cases with the EPIC 180 liquid cooler (featured in... Anyone who's opened a PC before knows it's quite common to find dust bunnies inside, even though dust and electronics don't exactly form a great duo. In an effort to help reduce the dust inside of one's case, Lian-Li is equipping all of its cases with easy-to-remove twist motion air filters. These washable air filters work with Lian Li and other manufacturers' 120mm and 140mm fans. The PT-AF12-3B and PT-AF14-3B washable air filters have been shipping on Lian Li cases since September, but you can also order them separately as a spare part. Announcing PT-AF12-3B and PT-AF14-3B Washable Air Filters Equipped on all Lian Li Cases Easy-to-Install and Remove Air Filters Are Now Fitted on all Lian Li... Read more...
The holiday shopping season is upon us, and that means setting aside some hard earned funds to buy your family and friends gifts because, well, that's the kind of thing we do this time of year. But lest you forget about yourself, Cooler Master today announced the Elite 431 Plus, a mid-tower computer case with some high end features at a mainstream price. The Elite 431 Plus is an all-black chassis with a somewhat aggressive styling, side window, and painted interior. A 120mm blue LED fan up front gives the case a bit of bling, in case you're into that sort of thing, and there's room for up to four more fans up top, on bottom, on the side, and in the back. We had a chance to get up close and personal with NZXT's ginormous Phantom chassis during our 'Back-to-School PC Roundup' in September, and let us tell you, it's a great looking case. It's also quite large. We thought it resembled a Storm Trooper, both in size and shape, and while that's fine if you have room for a full tower chassis, not everyone is interested in a case that big. Meet the new Phantom 410. NZXT's newly introduced Phantom 410 is the same chassis aesthetically and it shares many of the same awesome features, but in a smaller package. The Phantom 410 measures 215 (W) x 516 (H) x 532 (D) millimeters, a sizable downgrade in size compared to the original Phantom (222 x 540 x 623),... Read more...

Razer has never been one to turn down a beautiful partnership, once teaming up with the folks surrounding the TRON movie in order to introduce some rather spectacular looking peripherals. Now, the company is trying a similar approach with Hasbro, with the two teaming to reveal Transformers 3-centric accessories. The first is the Razer DeathAdder: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Collector’s Edition Gaming Mouse, which has a 3500dpi 3.5G infrared sensor, 1000Hz Ultrapolling with 1ms response time, 5 Hyperesponse buttons, and On-the-Fly sensitivity adjustments. Of note, it's a right-handed mouse, so southpaws will need to look elsewhere. It'll be available in four character "colors": Optimus... Read more...

Designed by the folks at BMW for Thermaltake, the one gripe that stuck with the original Level 10 case, was that it was gorgeous and drool-worthy perhaps but be prepared to sell that kidney, with its MSRP weighing in at $850 (they're selling for only $699 now).   So Thermaltake set out to design a more affordable follow-on product and the Level 10 GT was born.  The Level 10 GT has similar design cues to Thermaltake's uber-expensive first generation chassis, but is built with a more traditional internal component housing and lower-cost materials.  The GT doesn't catch your eye like the original Level 10 but it certainly still calls attention to itself more than most full towers... Well, this is crazy. The case shown here just might be the most strangely designed PC chassis that we have ever seen, and we have definitely seen some strange ones in our day. It's designed by Lian Li, which is a company that's well known for putting together some pretty intense designs. The company calls this "a piece of art," and we guess we can see that. The PC-U6 Cowry case is an aluminum shell that really looks like a seashell. Maybe it's the perfect case to get for your beach-house PC? Inside of this crazy thing, there's room for three 3.5" HDDs and two 2.5" HDDs, and all of the HDD mounts are tool-less. There's a single 5.25" drive at the top of the front-panel, and you'll find four ventilated... Read more...
Logitech has a long history of pumping out peripherals on their own, but for whatever reason they've decided to team up with yet another accessory maker for their newest device. The Logitech Keyboard Case is actually designed in cooperation with ZAGG, yet another peripheral maker, and it's actually one of the more unique options. It's an iPad 2 case, but it has a built-in keyboard. A couple of those have surfaced, but none of them have really managed to grab the public with stellar build quality and functionality. This particular case is made of precision-cut aircraft-grade aluminum and features military-grade, high-density padding. It's always hard going right up against Apple themselves, but... Read more...
One of the more serious issues with most full-size gaming towers is noise. Not really heat -- there's plenty of room for fans -- but those fans end up making a ton of noise. NZXT has just released their H2 Classic Silent chassis, which is one of the sleeker cases that we have seen. It provides a layer of noise dampening foam that keeps internal noise from escaping the chassis, and a magnetic fan cover on the top 140mm fan adds another element of silence, but can be removed if the user prefers to maximize cooling.  Efficient airflow is further achieved with a unique 3 phase fan controller that allows enthusiasts to adjust speeds at 40%, 70%, and 100%.  The removable touch powered fan... Cases rarely grace these pages, but we're all about rugged computing. If a company enables a mobile machine to become even more mobile by letting it operate safely in less-than-safe places, that's a big win in our mind. Loads of rugged tablets have made their way out over the years, and Panasonic's ToughBook line has become famous for being able to work in some pretty insane conditions. The Ballistic HD (Hard Core) case is a new one for Apple's iPhone 4, which is known for cracking easily when dropped from just a few feet up (with no case, of course). This new shell is tested to meet MIL-STD 810G specifications, and it's the only iPhone 4 case to do so. That's saying a lot given just how long... Read more...

It's baaaack! Thermaltake Level 10 gaming chassis was easily the most amazing, wild and unique looking cases on the market during its heyday, but we suppose that heyday ends now. The reason? The second version! Thermaltake knew that they had to keep a good thing going, so version two has arrived.
