The MakerBot Digitizer that the company teased as a prototype back at SXSW earlier this year is coming, and soon; MakerBot says that the Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner will be on sale starting the week of August 19th. That’s next week. The MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner is designed to make it easy for the average at-home user to scan an object, create a 3D image of it, and then print it on a 3D printer. AMD is kicking off its weekend with news of a partnership between itself and CAD software developer PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation). PTC owns and develops the Creo software family. One of the programs at the heart of the company, Creo Element/Pro, was originally known as Pro/ENGINEER. It's not at all unusual for software developers in the CAD/CAM space to ally with hardware manufacturers, but it's typically Nvidia, not AMD, making such announcements. AMD claims that the upcoming Creo 2.0 product suite will be able to take advantage of the GPU in unprecedented ways that simultaneously improve performance and visual quality without compromising either. Attempting to bridge the divide between two competing standards efforts, Cadence Design Systems will announce Monday (Dec. 4) that it has contributed its Common Power Format (CPF) to the Silicon Integration Initiative's (Si2) Low Power Coalition ahead of the anticipated date of January 31, 2007.
