MakerBot's Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner on Sale Week of August 19th
The MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner is designed to make it easy for the average at-home user to scan an object, create a 3D image of it, and then print it on a 3D printer. MakerBot says that the software should let users create 3D models with just two clicks and produce a digital design file in minutes.

Users won’t need any special design skills such as CAD, and they’ll be able to output their designs to standard 3D design file formats that they can further adjust or manipulate in other 3D modeling programs. And of course, users can share and distribute their designs on MakerBot’s Thingiverse site.

The MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner is by no means the only 3D scanner in the works, but it’s nevertheless an exciting development for makers and tinkerers.
