After a quick search of Newegg’s site, we’ve found that Intel’s trio of initial Core i7 processors and an array of X58 Express chipset-based motherboards have been made available, just shy of two weeks since our launch article hit the web. The Core i7 920 (2.66GHz), 940 (2.93GHz) and Core i7 Extreme 965 (3.2GHz) are all selling for a small premium at the moment--$319, $599, and 1069, respectively—but the X58 motherboards are priced right in line with expectations. MSI’s offering is the least expensive at the moment at about $220, and ASUS’ flagship Rampage II Extreme is currently the most expensive at almost $400. Coincidentally, we’ve got MSI’s X58 Platinum and ASUS’ Rampage II Extreme in the... Read more...

A few months back, Intel released the P45 Chipset -- at the time it was considered to be their mainstream offering, playing second fiddle to the X48 Express.  With official support of a 1333MHz FSB, PCI-E 2.0, ATI CrossFire, and support for both DDR2 and DDR3 memory, there's a lot of roads to go down with the construction of one of these boards, and MSI went down all of them.  MSI fleshed out a complete top-to-bottom assortment of  boards, which means that they have a P45 motherboard that suits just about every potential buyer's needs.  Two of these, the P45 Diamond and P45 Platinum are found towards the top end of their food chain, and we'll be taking a look at them today...... We're writing to let you know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate the features and performance of three X48-based motherboards. The first motherboard comes from ASUS, and is a member of the gamer-oriented Republic of Gamers series, which we have taken a few looks at in the past. We've been mostly impressed by what they've offered in this series, and expect no less with the Rampage Formula. Next up is the X48T-A from ECS. We can honestly say that we haven't seen much from ECS in the past couple of years in the enthusiast segment, so we aren't exactly sure what to expect, but if early impressions mean anything, this "Black Series" board means business. Finally,... Read more...
You may have grand visions of owning an Optimus Maximus but we'd caution that there are likely more practical uses of your hard-earned cashola, rather than splurging on frivelous things like a keyboard with independent displays for each key.  And with pricing well north of $1800, you can't be serious, right?  For a keyboard?  Hello??  We don't care how many languages it can be programmed to use.  It better make margaritas and then some, for that kind of money.  How about something a bit more down to earth, like a this sleek new keyboard from Logitech?  Oh yeah, its keys light up too and it's only 79 bucks.FREMONT, Calif. — Sept. 2, 2008 — To help you find the... Gigabyte is typically one of the most loyal Intel partners, when it comes to chipsets. While they don’t solely produce Intel motherboards, when Intel does release a new chipset, Gigabyte is almost always there to produce several products on any given chipset. Most often, we’ll see low-end, mid-range, and high-end products, that are usually enough to satisfy the entire spectrum of the market. With Intel’s new P45 chipset though, Gigabyte has simply gone off the deep end. At the time of writing this, a quick scan at Gigabyte’s website reveals that the company is currently mass producing nine different motherboards based on the Intel P45 chipset. Even for a company of Gigabyte’s size, that is an... Read more...
It's hard to show tech-savvy consumers advertising. Your grandma might still be looking at every pop-up ad a rapacious Internet businessman can come up with, but between fast-forwarding past TV ad spots with your Digital Video Recorder, pop-up blockers in your browser, and the Do Not Call list, a lot of people are avoiding the vast majority of advertising that's being hurled at them. Advertisers never give up, though. They just try a different approach. High-tech ad avoidance is leading to a boom in one of the oldest forms of advertising: billboards everywhere. They just call it "Out of Home Media" now. The new places for ads — as well as the addition of digital and video capabilities to signs,... Read more...

Analysts at Gartner have estimated that there are already one billion computers in use worldwide right now. That's a big number, but it's the estimated rate of growth in PC ownership that jumps off the page in their report -- 12 percent a year. That means by 2014, they estimate two billion people worldwide will be able to leave bizarre comments on YouTube videos or press the autosum button on a spreadsheet. “Whereas mature markets accounted for just under-60 percent of the first billion installed PCs, we expect emerging markets to account for approximately 70 percent of the next billion installed PCs,” says Gartner research vice president Luis Anavitarte. The firm cites the explosive expansion...
