Centrino based notebooks are the mobile computing industry's current bread and butter. There is really no denying the huge market share that Intel has claimed in the notebook arena. Centrino is synonymous with mobility and power efficiency, and it is generally regarded as the present gold standard when it comes to mainstream mobile computing. So where does this leave AMD? While both companies hold their own in the desktop market, the North American notebook market is dominated by Intel. Until the Turion 64 is widely available, there just aren't any strong AMD products that compete directly against Intel's low power Centrino platform. Of course, there are still a few DTRs (Desktop Replacement... Read more...

Refinements and performance optimizations in PC motherboard designs often track chipset re-spins and tweaks, as a new base architecture matures.  Intel is absolutely famous (or shall we say infamous) for releasing a new chipset only to set sail with a re-spin or further characterization of the product, just a few months later.  Such was the case for Intel's i925X chipset.  PC Motherboard OEMs first to market with new i925X "Alderwood" offerings are now trying to shift gears and react to Intel's characterization and branding of the chip at 1066MHz Front Side Bus speeds.  The i925X now has an "E" revision denoting "official" support for this... Hey folks, it's hard to believe that the new year is upon us.  2004 has flown by in my opinion, with a lot of changes in my life occurring.  I hope 2005 will be a good one, with a few goals set, it could be.  I'm not big on the whole "resolution" thing, but there is that sense of a clean slate, starting fresh.  I have to say, I always get a bit of a chuckle this time of year when you suddenly start seeing more joggers than usual on the road.  I guess getting in shape is the most popular resolution out there.  Well, I'm running a little slow today, woke up with no coffee in the house.  So let's get the news going so I can go get my java! Good afternoon to all of you, it's certainly a great afternoon for me. According to FedEx, my Athlon 64 package is supposed to arrive today. With all of my excitement, I realize I'm still a little kid a Christmas time. The cold weather, the snow, and of course the new toys... it still brings back that same feeling. Though now that I'm older, I'm able to appreciate the family gatherings a little bit more, but the gathering of new hardware is almost as good :) Mushkin PC2-5300 vs. Corsair PC2-5400 review @ MetkuMods "With the latest chipsets there have been many new terms and technologies introduced to the public. In system memory this meant the introduction of DDR2 memory modules. With lower... Read more...

There's a certain allure in being able to make the claim that you can double the performance of anything. All too often, overzealous marketing campaigns in the high-tech field have made a "theoretical" claim of this sort, all the while falling well short in real-world performance metrics.  The PC graphics industry has had its hand at blurring this line, as well, but the last new architecture launches from both NVIDIA and ATi have in many cases actually delivered on this bold statement as compared to their respective previous-gen product offerings. Another way you can make this claim without totally having to sling the snake oil is to pair up two of your latest and greatest products... Read more...
Good afternoon all!  Jeff takes a look at two new i915 Motherboards for the Pentium 4 that do a nice job of straddling the line between legacy and leading edge Intel architectures.  Want to use that DDR RAM you have, instead of buying new DDR2 sticks?  No problemo amigo. Check them out here...... Read more...
In recent months, Intel's i915G/P and i925X chipsets have taken center stage as the premier chipsets for the Intel P4 desktop platform.  With the new "Grantsdale" and "Alderwood" chipsets came the next major shift in computer technology.  The latest designs employ the newest Pentium 4 LGA775 packaging, while bringing PCI Express and DDR2 to the forefront of the Intel-based market.  With so much change, making the move to Intel's latest offerings requires a little more planning and cost consideration.  Unlike previous chipset updates, the decision of migrating to the newer platform involves more than just a motherboard upgrade.  User's will need to...   Choosing a recordable DVD drive has always been somewhat of a difficult task.  There was a bit of initial uncertainty as some wondered which format would win out, DVD+R or DVD–R.  After all, each format has its advantages.  In the end, however, unlike the Beta vs VHS battles of the early 80s, this war was quelled as OEMs moved quickly to offer both capabilities with Dual Format drives. Today, we have another addition to the mix with the long awaited arrival of Dual Layer recordable DVDs.  This iteration of writable media supports a full 8.5GB of storage capacity.  And unlike previous market evolutions, Dual Layer DVD drives have entered the market at very... Good morning all!  Man, last night was a tense evening around the HH labs.  With the Yankees "blowing it" and the Red Sox making history, emotions were high.  Needless to say, Yankees fans are pretty cranky and Davo, our lone Sox fan, (correction Jeff, Tom is one too!) is laughing all the way home.  It was fun to watch, even for a non-fan like myself, but after the Sox put up 8 runs, I knew it was time to call it a night.  Oh well, at least NY still has two football teams doing really good right now. Heck, the Jets are undefeated! Who would've guessed that one?!?!  (want to put some money on the Pats/Jets game this weekend? ;) ) Anyhow, here is your news... Read more...

The back of the case features an exhaust which can accommodate an 80mm, 92mm, or 120mm fan.
