Google has had a difficult time keeping its upcoming Pixel 3 smartphone a secret. There have been an abundance of leaks, with one from last week confirming that the device has a single rear camera and a notched screen. Previous leaks had shown what the device will look like in its black and white versions. A new Google app 8.14 beta has also rolled out, which features some code that references a companion device called the "Pixel Stand." Google Now really wants to be helpful for you. In addition to the various ways Google Now can predict your needs before you know you have them, the little buddy in your Android smartphone will remind you when your bills are due. The Android Police found code in an APK that points to just such an ability, however basic. By integrating with your Gmail account, Google Now identifies emails about bills and will present you a card with the biller’s name, the amount due, and the date due. Gmail for Android has been ad-free up to this point, but it appears as though that’s changing. In an APK teardown of the latest version of Gmail for Android (4.6), Artem Russakovskii of the Android Police noted that there are chunks of code that point strongly to ads. (click to enlarge) One bit of code appears to allow users to save ads as messages, so if you see something you like, you can essentially save it to your inbox and chew on it later. If not, you can dismiss it. This feature would make sense if, for example, you get ads for sales at your favorite retail stores and want to pull up the promotion when you’re out shopping. Google posted a changelist of new features brought forth by the latest Google Glass APK (XE7), and they include expanded capabilities for the “OK, Glass” functionality, increased web browsing controls, the ability to call or send a message to anyone in your Google contacts, more refined voice search tools, and more. However, GitHub user zhuowei posted some additional “hidden” changes in XE7 that he found by digging through the code.
