This week at Gamescom 2018, NVIDIA held a GeForce Gaming Celebration to unveil its new GeForce RTX 2080 and 2070 series graphics cards, based on its new Turing GPU architecture. The NVIDIA GPU that powers GeForce RTX cards ushers in a wealth of new technologies, enabled by its new processing engines. These new technologies include hardware-accelerated, real-time Ray Tracing and a new form of anti-aliasing called DLSS or Deep Learning Super Sampling, among a few others we can't talk about just yet. When AMD launched the Barts GPU that powers the Radeon 6850 and 6870 last year, it added support for what it described as a new type of antialiasing—Morphological AA (MLAA). Intel, who originally developed MLAA in 2009, has released a follow-up paper on the topic--including a discussion of how the technique could be handled by the CPU. While this might seem contrary to conventional wisdom, it could allow an integrated CPU+GPU to make better use of existing execution resources. One of the fun things about being a hardware analyst is that every now and then, research and comparison between products turns up something both interesting and unexpected. In this case, we were testing and comparing image quality between ATI's 5970 and the GeForce GTX 480 as part of a system review when we stumbled across an officially confirmed antialiasing bug in NVIDIA's 197.41 drivers. Unlike some "bugs" that artificially inflate benchmark performance or lower detail levels, this one improves image quality by performing supersampling AA (SSAA) across the entire image... First Nvidia decides that two video cards just wasn't enough, so they came out with Quad SLI. Now we have Nvidia rolling out some new image quality options, as they'll soon be introducing 32x Anti-Aliaisng. Well, I guess they had to do something with all that extra horse power.  Although this really isn't breaking news.  We reported on this back in January after meeting with NVIDIA at CES...
