LG V40 ThinQ - Powerful And Sleek With Triple Rear Cameras
LG is at the ready again with its latest V-series smartphone, the V40 ThinQ. Like its predecessors, the LG V40 ThinQ is a large-screen device that’s outfitted with some high-end internal hardware and an array of innovative features meant to distinguish it from the competition. In the case of the LG V40 ThinQ, in addition to its beautiful 6.4” OLED display and svelte exterior, the phone is equipped with a total of five cameras – two in front, and three in back – and the ability to do some interesting and useful things with those cameras, including creating cinemagraphs and multi-shot GIF animations.

The LQ V40 ThinQ’s main features and specifications read like many of the more powerful smartphones currently on the market. The LQ V40 ThinQ is built around Qualcomm’s powerful octa-core Snapdragon 845 mobile platform (clocked up to 2.8GHz) with Adreno 630 graphics, paired to 6GB of low-power DDR4 memory, and 64GB of internal storage. Please note, however, that the LQ V40 ThinQ’s storage is also expandable via a microSD card – up to an additional 2TB.
Treating your eyeballs is a beautiful 6.4” QuadHD+ OLED display with HDR10 support (more on this later). The LQ V40 ThinQ is also outfitted with a wide array of cameras -- five to be exact -- three on the back and two on the front. There’s a 12MP standard shooter on the back with an f/1.5 aperture, optical image stabilization, and dual-pixel phase detection auto-focus. This sits next to a 16MP wide-angle f/1.9 shooter and 107 degree field of view, and a 12MP telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and 2x optical zoom. There are also two selfie cameras on the front – an 8MP with f/1.9 aperture and 80 degree field of view and somewhat wider-angle 5MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 90 degree FOV. The rear cameras can shoot 4K video at up to 60FPS, but you lose image stabilization on that mode, and the front cameras can do FullHD at 30FPS.
Powering the device is a 3,300mAh battery and the V40 ThinQ runs the gamut in terms of wireless connectivity, which includes 4G LTE, 802.11ac WiFI, Bluetooth, NFC, and everything else you’d expect in a high-end, current generation smartphone.
LG did a good job with the V40 ThinQ’s bundle as well. Along with the device itself, LG includes a microfiber cloth, a SIM tray tool, a QuickCharge Adapter, a lit pack, and a set of nice earbuds, with an attractive braided cable. LG takes audio seriously with its devices, as evidenced by its usual premium setup of a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound support, so it’s nice to see a quality set of buds included with the V40 ThinQ.
