We've got a few more
OpenGL tests to run before wrapping things up...

MDK 2, Serious Sam and
Dronez Benchmarks |
Will older technology hold up? |

MDK
2:
MDK 2 performed very
well on the 3D Prophet 4500. Again we see a
game that it completely playable all the way up to
1280x1024.
SERIOUS SAM:
The Serious Sam testing
was done using the "final" demo. This was the
benchmark that excited many budget gamers because
the Kyro II outperforms most other cards playing
Serious Sam. The 3D Prophet's high "effective"
fillrate and 8-Layer multitexturing help it shine
here. Next up, Dronez...
DRONEZ:
Considering that Dronez
is a "next-gen" OpenGL game, we were surprised to
see the Kyro II performing so well in this test.
We must
admit that our experience with the 3D Prophet 4500
was a pleasant one. The card installed without
incident, had excellent image quality, was
compatible with every game and hardware platform we
threw at it and is an excellent performer especially
considering the low price. Some users may be
concerned that the lack of Hardware T&L and other
DirectX 8 features may shorten the lifespan of the
3D Prophet 4500. It handled Dronez and 3D Mark
2001 just fine though, and they are a good example
of what game developers have in store for us in the
coming months. If you are in the market for a
good mid-range gaming card, you are short changing
yourself if you don't consider the 3D Prophet 4500.
We give the 3D Prophet 4500 a HotHardware Heat Meter
rating of...
