Nero CD-DVD Speed - Movie Playback Test:

Our final read test will focus on DVD Movie playback.  For this we used a copy of Underworld.  We should note the Plextor drive utilizes SpeedRead technology that locks the drive at 2X.  During this test, SpeedRead was disabled, so maximum speeds were reached.

Plextor PX-712SA

The DRW-1604P managed a steady dataflow with an average rotation speed of 3.92X, starting out at 2.19X and peaking at 5.08X.  The drive also managed a solid 43MB/s burst rate while maintaining respectable CPU utilization.  In fact, CPU usage was better than the Plextor PX712A, although the Plextor drive managed better seek times overall, mostlikely a result of its 8MB cache.

This concludes the Read testing of the ASUS DRW-1604P Dual Layer DVD Drive.  Next, we'll focus our attention on the drive's Write capabilities.
