Sony's The Last Of Us Part 2 Gameplay Trailer Is A Stunning PS4 Showcase

The Last of Us Part II
Are we having fun yet? E3 has not been a disappointment, with many of the big names coming out and announcing new games, products, and services. Count Sony among them. Fans of The Last of Us will be interested to know that developer Naughty Dog is working on a sequel for the PlayStation 4 console, and Sony showed off a gameplay trailer that lasted nearly 12 minutes long. Whether you are familiar with the original game or not, it's worth checking out.

The trailer is primarily focused on Ellie, who is again played by actress and singer Ashley Johnson. It begins innocently enough with Ellie attending a party. She shares a kiss with another female on the dance floor, who tells Ellie everyone in attendance "should be terrified" of her. It's a clever play on words, as the scene morphs into Ellie slitting a man's throat in the jungle. It's a brutal transition, as it's a rather slow death as eventually deceased struggles in vain to avoid his fate.

Ellie is then shown stealthily moving around a city that is overgrown by nature. She takes out different enemies along the way, enemies who reference her as "wolf" as she takes them out one by one with different weapons. These are all survivors in a post-apocalyptic world caused by a fungus that has reduced humankind to zombie-like creatures known simply as the Infected. The graphics in the sequel are excellent.

What's not entirely clear here is the timeline. The trailer appears to depict a flashback. She looks older than in the first game, though the trailer is vague enough to spark lots of speculation and theories as to when it is taking place and what the circumstances are. Regardless, it looks like The Last of Us Part II is going to be one heck of a ride, at least if you are into this sort of thing—the dark theme is not for everyone, obviously.

The Last of Us Part II is a single-player game. It has been in development since 2014 and was announced at the PlayStation Experience event in late 2016. This is the third trailer for the game. There's still no word on when it will be released.
