Watch out Samsung and move over Apple, because Motorola is coming out swinging with its new Signature 27 (first revealed in September), a premium Android smartphone that makes a serious play for flagship supremacy. Or in Motorola's own words, the Signature 27 "sets a new flagship standard" with its brilliantly bright 12,000-nit OLED display, 200-megapixel camera, and Qualcomm's latest high-end Snapdragon chip.

Just brace yourself for sticker shock because the device's copious list of features and tricks is not cheap. All of the phone's hardware and features come with a flagship-sized price tag of $1,599.99, putting the Signature 27 squarely in ultra-premium territory.

Starting with the display, the Signature 27 boasts a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo screen (Tandem OLED) with a 2780x1264 resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision support. At 12,000 nits of peak brightness, the Signature 27 has no rival at the moment.

"This advanced display is also designed to be smarter and more durable, delivering up to 34% greater energy efficiency and up to a 121% longer lifespan than traditional AMOLED panels. Pantone Validated color calibration ensures colors and skin tones appear true to life, while SGS-certified blue light technology helps reduce eye strain," Motorola says.

Underneath it sits Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, accompanied by Motorola's ArcticMesh cooling system featuring a diamond-infused thermal gel and a larger vapor chamber. It's one of just a handful of smartphones to rock Qualcomm's latest and greatest mobile silicon. Other core specs include 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

That said, photography is where Motorola is making an especially aggressive push. The Signature 27 features a 50MP main camera built around Sony's LYTIA L910 sensor, flanked by a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and up to 100x AI-assisted digital zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide lens. There's also a 50MP front-facing shooter.

More interestingly, Motorola has added a dedicated Event Vision Sensor (EVS) to help capture fast-moving subjects. Instead of recording conventional images, the sensor detects changes in light at the pixel level, providing additional motion information for Motorola's Action Shot feature. The camera system has already earned a DXOMARK Gold Label and an overall score of 173, which Motorola says makes it the highest-ranked smartphone camera system launched in 2026.

As for durability, the Signature 27 brings IP68 and IP69 ratings, and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. And for audio, the phone is tuned by Bang & Olufsen.

It's also packing a big 7,000mAh battery with support for 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. Motorola claims up to 77 hours of battery life.

The cherry on top is a bit of future-proofing in the connectivity department. Motorola kitted the Signature 27 with a new 6-antenna design for faster 5G downloads and a claimed 2x boost to Wi-Fi speeds, and Wi-Fi 8 support.

We have not spent any hands-on time with the Signature 27, but the spec sheet is certainly impressive. Whether it's impressive enough to entice buyers into paying a premium remains to be seen. As it stands, the Signature 27 opens for preorders on November 19, with retail availability beginning November 26. At $1,599, it's certainly not cheap, but Motorola is clearly hoping its monster specs and camera chops will convince buyers to look beyond the usual Samsung, Google, and Apple flagships.
