LG G Flex2 Brings Subtly Curved Full HD Display, 64-Bit Snapdragon 810

The original LG G Flex was introduced nearly a year ago and was quite an odd entry into the smartphone space. The smartphone featured a massive 6-inch screen, but had a lowly resolution of 1280x720. And we can’t forget the hallmark feature of the LG Flex: its curved  700R (700mm radius) plastic OLED display.

Well, LG is back at it again this year with the LG G Flex2, and it’s looking to improve upon its predecessor in just about every possible way. First of all, LG has shrunk down the comical dimensions of the original with a more pocket-friendly 5.5-inch display that has been upgraded from 720p to Full HD resolution. The G Flex2 also has a number of curves this time around ranging from 400mm to 700mm in radius. The radius of the smartphone’s backplate is now 650mm, which LG says makes the G Flex2 more comfortable to grasp.

Under the hood, you’ll find Qualcomm’s latest 64-bit, octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. You’ll also be able to choose from either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, and a microSD slot is included for storage expansion. Other features include a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 2MP front-facing camera, 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and LTE support. However, since the G Flex2 has shrunk from a 6-inch class device to a 5.5-inch class device, the battery has also taken a hit in capacity and is now rated at 3000 mAh compared to 3500 mAh for its predecessor.

And we have to give LG a pat on the back for actually shipping the G Flex2 with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Some OEMs are still announcing tablets and smartphones with Android 4.4 KitKat while promising an OTA update to Lollipop at a future date.

“The original G Flex demonstrated LG’s pioneering spirit and with the G Flex2 we have refined the curved form factor, staying true to our philosophy of innovation for a better life,” said Juno Cho, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The G Flex2 not only has the stunning looks, it also has the powerful guts to be at the cutting edge of current smartphone technology. Simply put, it’s a true head-turner in every sense of the word.”

The LG G Flex2 will be available in either Platinum Silver or Flamenco Red, and will launch on AT&T’s wireless network in the U.S. Pricing and availability is not known at this time.
