Intel's 14nm Broadwell Core M To Power Detachable 2-in-1 Devices Later This Year
The device is powered by Intel’s next-gen 14nm Broadwell processors--called the Intel Core M processor--that have been “purpose-built” for the 2-in-1 form factor. Intel is calling the Core M the most efficient processor in its history, and they’ll underpin a wave of fanless, fast, and incredibly thin laptops.
The reference device sports a 12.5-inch display, weighs 670g, and measures just 7.2mm thick. There’s a media dock that accompanies the slate that offers additional cooling and more performance.
If it’s as good as advertised, Intel should be lauded for bringing this form factor to a better level. The 2-in-1 paradigm is a natural evolution of laptops and tablets, but too often efforts in the industry have failed to produce a truly compelling 2-in-1. If there’s a new crop of excellent hybrids hitting the market soon, you won’t hear us complaining.
