eBay and Retail Partner to Launch NYC Store with Touchscreen Window
We hear the phrase "the future is mobile" a lot, but just what does that mean? Most of us are equipped with smartphones, and some of us tablets... just how much more mobile can we get? With devices that we don't own, but still use, of course. Case in point: an installation eBay is planning to kick-off with a major retail partner in New York City this summer.
The plan was mentioned at TechCrunch's ongoing Disrupt conference by eBay CEO John Donahoe. Details are extremely light at the moment, but what is known is that this retail outlet will have a touchscreen window, likely to allow passersby to browse various collections and maybe even buy something. Would you have to log into your eBay account, or would address information be made available just by swiping your credit card? These are things we don't quite understand at the moment. Donahoe didn't even specifically mention the partnered retailer by name.
What do you think the store will look like once finished? According to Donahoe, we "will see more and more of that", and he's made it clear that his company has great interest in investing in interesting projects like these, and I'm likewise very interested in seeing what the future holds.
