Crucial Now Shipping Next Generation DDR4 Memory

The DDR4 future looms increasingly large, as Crucial announced that it’s now sampling DDR4 server memory to channel partners who are working on platforms to support the latest generation of RAM.

"Memory is one of the biggest limitations when it comes to enterprise server environments,” said Michael Moreland, worldwide product marketing manager, Crucial. “Many memory-dependent server applications are crucial to the day-to-day operations of a business, but they require higher densities of memory and increased performance." He added that DDR4 will help servers run faster and more efficiently while seeing a reduction in power consumption and costs related to cooling.

DDR4 promises to double the data rates offered by early DDR3, up to 2133 MT/s at launch, and Crucial memory in tandem with Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 products can double memory bandwidth to 17GB/s while using 20% less voltage and 40% less power.

Crucial is backing its DDR4 with a lifetime warranty.

Crucial isn’t the only company ready to pounce on the future of memory. Samsung, for example, has started mass producing DDR4 server memory last year and announced last month that it was accelerating its production in anticipation of Intel’s latest Xeon launch.
