Corsair Launches $199 TC80 Gaming Chair Built To Take A Beating

Following up on its initial summer teaser, Corsair's new and battle tested TC80 gaming chair is now available to buy. Priced at $199.99, the TC80 sits on the slightly more affordable side of Corsair's gaming chair lineup. It also notably ditches traditional race-bucket styling seen in favor of a wider, flatter seat base and commercial-grade office furniture durability.

Beyond just marketing claims, Corsair says it validated the TC80 against rigorous BIFMA X5.1 and EN 1335 testing protocols, including a barrage of more than 30 durability and safety tests. More specifically, Corsair points to the following test results:

Drop Load Proof Test: 136kg (300lbs) dropped onto the center of the seat.
Backrest Load Test: 1,001N is applied to the backrest for a minute.
Forward Overturning Test: 600N at points most likely to result in overturning.
Rearward Stability Test: 13 heavy discs are loaded against the backrest.
Seating Durability Test: 100,000 cycles of 57kg (126lbs) falling onto the seat.
Tilt Mechanism Test: The chair is tilted with109kg (240lbs) on the center of the seat for 300,000 cycles.
Armrest Durability Test: 60,000 cycles of 400N applied to each arm.
Swivel Test: 122kg (269lbs) is applied on the seat at both its maximum and lowest height for 120,000 cycles.

Good stuff, if the chair holds up to the stress testing claims. Outside of stress testing, the TC80 is designed for comfort and flexible ergonomics. Corsair says it wrapped the primary contact zones in a breathable fabric, while the flattened seat cushion abandons side bolsters—a design choice Corsair previously adopted on its flagship TC500 Luxe—to let gamers more easily shift positions. The company also points to padded linkage armrests, which speaks to me personally. One of my main gripes with a lot of gaming-slash-office chairs is the armrests are hard. I've taken to buying cheap pads on Amazon to thwart sore elbows.

Underneath, the frame employs a five-star steel base with 50mm casters and a Class 4 gas lift offering 100mm of height adjustment. According to the specs, the TC80 can accommodate users weighing up to 264 pounds (120kg) and standing up to 6'2" (188cm).

Backed by a two-year warranty, the Corsair TC80 is shipping now directly from Corsair and major online retailers in both dark and light colorways, or so we're told. The product link on Corsair's U.S. website is not live at the time of this writing. We did find a listing on Amazon, though it shows no stock just yet. We imagine both of those issues will resolve by the end of the day.
