ASUS Launches 27-inch TUF Gaming VG279QM 280Hz Display With G-SYNC And FreeSync
The display is being marketing under ASUS' TUF Gaming brand, and is called the VG279QM. The monitor measures 27 inches across, and features an IPS panel. Resolution checks in at Full HD (1920x1080), with a gray-to-gray response time of 1ms, brightness rating of 400 nits (VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified), 8-bit color depth, and 99 percent of the sRGB color space. ASUS is also quoting a contrast ratio of 1000:1.
As for the 280Hz refresh rate, no other specifics are being given on how ASUS is achieving that figure. However, we'd have to imagine that the 280Hz setting will be unlocked within the monitor's OSD, perhaps the panel has a native refresh rate of a slightly less frantic 240Hz.
Other specs of mention for the VG279QM include a couple of HDMI 2.0 ports along with just one DisplayPort 1.2 connector. As you might expect with a flagship gaming monitor from ASUS, Aura SYNC RGB lighting is also in the mix for those that want to coordinate lighting effects with their motherboard, GPUs, coolers, and other accessories. You’ll also find support for both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC adaptive refresh rate technologies.
With all of this being said, we'd have to imagine that you're going to need a flagship-class processor -- i.e. Intel Core i9-9900KS or AMD Ryzen 9 3950X -- along with something like a Radeon VII or GeForce GTX 2080 Ti to push frames rates high enough to really take advantage of the 280Hz refresh rate. And even then, you won't find many (if any) recently-released AAA titles that will allow you to hit 280fps.
The ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM is currently listed for sale in China priced at 元3699, or roughly $530. There is no word on if or when the VG279QM will be released in the United States.
