With Media Center DOA In Windows 10, Microsoft Adds $15 DVD App To Windows Store

When Microsoft first laid out all of the changes that were coming to Windows 10, one that didn't seem too surprising was the removal of Windows Media Center and a DVD player. After all, it seems nowadays, very few rely entirely on their PC for DVD playback purposes, so the player's inclusion did little more than add to the price for most people.

However, for those who do rely on the Windows DVD player, its removal has no doubt been frustrating. There is some good news, though, as long as you're willing to shell out $15 for a standard fare (or even lackluster) version. That's right - the Windows DVD Player is now officially available in the Windows Store.

I admit, $15 is a bit much for such a simple app, especially when there are a countless number of alternatives out there, such as VLC. While VLC skirts the requirement to pay for proper licensing, $15 is simply going to be a hard sell for most. What would make that fee a bit more suitable would be Blu-ray support, but nope - it's not here.

The upside to all of this is that the option is there for those who want it. For the rest of us who think $15 is ridiculous, VLC is just a download away.
