Acer Introduces 7" And 10" Android Tablets, Single 10.1" Windows 7 Tablet

Thanksgiving Break may be just hours away, but that doesn't mean everyone is shutting down just yet. Acer had a huge event today in New York City, where they unveiled a bunch of new hardware. The company has thus far abstained from getting involved with tablets. Tablets are obviously a huge market, and just about everyone is getting involved. But Acer, one of the world's most dominant PC makers, has managed to steer clear. It was all but a matter of time before that changed, and it's changing soon. Acer's laptops are widely regarded as some of the best in the industry, and hopes are probably high that their tablets will also be top-of-class.

Three specific new tablets were introduced today: a 7" and 10" Android tablet, as well as a 10" Windows 7 tablet. That's a pretty wide scope, and should please just about any tablet purchaser who has decided against Apple's iPad. Both the 7" and 10" units will use dual-core processors at 1GHz or greater, and the usual Wi-Fi / Bluetooth will be included. The displays will both have multi-touch support as well as a 1280x800 screen resolution. Yeah, both tablets will use that high-res display, so these should be great for watching movies and surfing the web.

Both will also ship with Android, but given that they won't ship until April of 2011, there's no telling what version of Android will be out by then. These will also have HDMI outputs and internal Gyroscopes, perfect for gaming. Design wise, they're definitely slick, but we'll need to wait for price points before we can compare 'em closely to the others on the market today.

Live and interact in total mobility

Tablets according to Acer

New York, November 23rd 2010 - Acer enters the tablet arena with a very clear objective in mind: complete its range of products in support of its goal to simplify content consumption – a strategy which began with the development of Acer’s multimedia sharing system, Clear.fi.

Acer’s strategy is based on the concept of sharing multimedia content and enjoying it across any device, and Tablets are ideal devices for this purpose.
With close to 19 million tablets sold worldwide in 2010, 54.8 million units expected to be sold in 2011, and 208 million units forecasted for 2014, the market seems to confirm this idea.

Mobility, which has always been part of Acer’s DNA, finds a new form of expression in the range of tablets on offer, which feature various display sizes and models designed to fit different kinds of usage scenarios.

Weight and display size have a huge impact on the user experience. While devices with bigger screens are used to share and enjoy content, smaller devices are often used to create content - taking photos, recording videos or sending messages.
