MSI has just announced a brand new ultra small form factor PC, dubbed the Titan 700.  The tiny machine features a 2.0GHz VIA C7 processor, a mini-ITX motherboard, and a compact case with a volume of only 3.1L. The motherboard's CN700 norhtbridge sports a VIA Graphics (S3) UniChrome Pro IGP, and other features include a slim optical drive, and AC'97 audio.  The unit's 60W PSU hints at the Titan 700's miniscule power requirements. The full press release with pics and complete specifications are available below... Why wait to play with someone else's Microsoft Surface multi-touch tabletop display, when you can build one yourself! Apparently a big hit at this last weekend's Maker Faire, was an open-source design for tinkerers to inexpensively build  their own multi-touch tabletop display with off-the-shelf components. The design comes from Eyebeam, a self-described, "art and technology center that provides a fertile context and state-of-the-art tools for digital research and experimentation." AMD Reports First Quarter Results SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 17, 2008 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today reported first quarter 2008 revenue of $1.505 billion, a net loss of $358 million, or $0.59 per share, and an operating loss of $264 million.  These results include an impact of $50 million, or $0.08 per share, from ATI acquisition-related charges.   First quarter revenue decreased 15 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2007 and increased 22 percent compared to the first quarter of 2007.  In the fourth quarter of 2007, AMD reported revenue of $1.770 billion, a net loss of $1.772 billion, and an operating loss of $1.678 billion.  In the first quarter of 2007, AMD reported... Yesterday news regarding the availability of HP's ultra portable Mini-Note PC broke and generated some buzz.  But ever since ASUS first unveiled the EeePC other players like Everex, Acer, and ECS, among others, have all announced or introduced similar, relatively low priced, portable solutions.  And according to a story posted on CNN Money via Dow Jones, Dell will be next to enter the fray.Dell Inc. Intel is formally announcing a brand new processor today that it hopes will drive the next generation of mobile Internet devices.  Intel’s new platform for MIDs is called Menlow. And whereas the previous generation McCaslin platform was found in ultra low-voltage notebooks, Menlow is the processor and chipset combination you’ll find in future navigation devices, Internet tablets, video players, and gaming handhelds. Yesterday, news broke regarding Microsoft and Intel launching parallel research centers at UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to investigate way to accelerate developments in mainstream parallel computing.  And today, we've posted some details and commentary on the subject over at HotHardware.  Here's a snip from the piece... It's no secret that the days of procuring performance exclusively through faster clock speeds are over. The current crop of multi-core server, desktop, and mobile CPU designs are a dead giveaway that processor vendors like Intel are instead looking to increased parallelism as the facilitator of more computing horsepower. The problem, according to David Patterson, professor of computer science at UC Berkeley, becomes one of scheduling and balancing workloads across multiple sets of processing resources, so that you can truly get more performance out of those threaded designs. Way back in late 2006, NVIDIA simultaneously unveiled a new flagship GPU and desktop chipset that became the foundation of what NVIDIA was calling the "ultimate gaming platform".  At the time, the combination of a pair of GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards and an nForce 680i SLI-based motherboard was clearly the most powerful hardware combo available for gamers.  And here we are, nearly a year and a half later in early 2008, and still that combo is tough to beat; truly a testament to NVIDIA's engineering abilities and execution.Since the introduction of that version of NVIDIA's ultimate gaming platform, the company's product stack has changed quite a bit.  New GPUs have hit the...
